Chamber to hear radio personality

CHRISTIANSBURG - Scott Stevens, on-air personality and operations manager for Kool Country 101.7 FM, is the winner in the first Montgomery County Ambassador Race, sponsored by the Christiansburg-Montgomery Chamber of Commerce.

Stevens will speak Wednesday at noon at the chamber's membership luncheon at the Blacksburg Marriott. He will talk about his duties and listen to the concerns of chamber members.

"Overall I think [the contest] was highly successful in that we had four good candidates who have high visibility," said Kathy Mantz, executive director of chamber. She said she was happy with the $1,500 the contest raised, at $1 per vote.

Stevens' duties will include appearances at chamber functions and as a liaison between members and the board of directors. He will go with a chamber delegation to Richmond in January to attend the Old Dominion Assembly sponsored by the Virginia Chamber of Commerce.

Other contenders were: Dave Anderson, nominated by Rocco's Pizza and Grill; Kelly Shelton, nominated by Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the New River Valley; and Roger Woolwine, nominated by Wade's Foods.

The chamber has also identified three areas for focus in its five-year strategic plan: chamber operations, member services and business advocacy. The chamber settled on its plan after a recent all-day planning session led by James Lollar, an associate professor of marketing at Radford University.
