CHASSE, Olivette Desrosiers, 84, of Bedford and Nashua, N.H., died Friday, November 15, 1996, in Carilion Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born in Nashua on March 2, 1912, a daughter of the late Alphonse and Seraphine Carrier Desrosiers. She was the mother of Constance L. Messier of Bedford. A Christian Wake service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 17, 1996, at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, where the family will receive friends until 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date in Nashua. CLEMENTS, Elrie Junior, 69, of Rocky Mount, died Friday, November 15, 1996, in a Roanoke Hospital. He was preceded in death by a brother Hugh L. Clements. Surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Valeria and Roscoe Powell of Rocky Mount; two nieces, Sarah E. Powell of Vinton; Melissa A. Powell of Martinsville. ERWIN, Dorothy Keffer, 83, of 347 East Gray Street, Covington, died Saturday, November 16, 1996, at Lewis Manor Home for Adults in Callaghan. She was born February 13, 1913, in New Castle, a daughter of the late William and Samantha Bradley Keffer. Mrs. Erwin wa s a member of First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett W. (``Curly"") Erwin, in 1988, and by one brother and two sisters. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Betty Erwin Rohr and Dwight Rohr of Covington; two grandsons, Christopher M. Rohr and Joseph M. Rohr of Covington; one sister, Geneva Bell of New Castle, and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel in Covington, with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. The interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park. FLORA, Claude E., 93, of Roanoke, died Saturday, November 16, 1996, in a Salem hospital. He was a longtime member and lifetime Deacon of Ninth Street Church of the Brethren. Surviving are his devoted wife of 67 years, Beulah Doss Flora; son and daughter-in-law, David Lee and Garnet Law Flora of Roanoke; grandchildren, Lisa Marie and husband Greg Tomlinson of Roanoke, and Gary Lee and wife Beckey Flora of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren, and one brother, Daniel J. Flora of Boones Mill. Funeral services will be at Oakey's South Chapel at 2 p.m. Monday, November 18, 1996, with the Rev. John Huffaker and Mr. J. L. Viar officiating. FLORA, Essie Anderson, 90, of Boones Mill, died Saturday, November 16, 1996 in the local hospital. She was the widow of Cecil Ramon Flora. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, David Cornelius and Janie Flora, Boones Mill; her grandchildren, Gary and Linda Flora, Boones Mill, Debbie and Barry Altice, Van and Jean Flora all of Rocky Mount; her great-grandchildren, Michael Flora, Justin Altice, Karen Altice, Caleb Flora, Patricia Flora; one stepgreat-granddaughter, Rebecca Talbert; one sister, Katherine King, Boones Mill; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Henry and Lorraine Anderson, Boones Mill, Lillian Anderson, Maryland. GOODPASTURE, Conley S., Jr., (``Pete''), 75, of Roanoke, died Thursday, November 14, 1996. He was preceded in death by his parents, Conley and Essie Goodpasture Sr. He was a member of Williamson Road Church of the Brethren and was also an Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired salesman from Culligan Water Systems of Roanoke. HAGER, Earl J., 88, of Lenora, W.Va., and 1261 Hamilton Terrace, Roanoke, died Friday, November 15, 1996, in Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley. Born in Mercer County, W.Va., on November 20, 1908, he was a son of the late Edward C. and Callie Ann Faulkner Hager. He retired from Appalachian Power Company as a system transmission line foreman after 47 years of service. During his career, he was burned by 33,000 volts of electricity, and was the first and only man to endure that amount of voltage and survive. He was a member of Greenview United Methodist Church in Green Valley, where he served on the Administrative Board and various committees. He was educated in Mercer County Schools. He was a member of Princeton Masonic Lodge #134, A.F.&A.M.; Princeton Chapter #44, Royal Arch Masons; Bluefield Cammandery #19, Knights Templar, and Beni Kedem Shrine Temple in Charleston. Earl and his wife, Julia, were greatly interested in and actively supported the Southern Regional Health Renal Unit. Because of their dedication and financial assistance, the renal unit in Green Valley was made possible by and named for Earl J. Hager in memory of their deceased daughter, Elizabeth Ann Hager Gregory. In addition to his parents and daughter, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Gregory; a son-in-law, Arnold Gregory; three sisters, Margaret Hutchens, Lake Hill and Jesse Martin, and three brothers, Edwin Hager, Arnold Hager and Howard Hager. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Julia Danley Hager; one grandson, Earl H. Hager of Lenora; one brother, Kenneth Hager and his wife Naomia of Clear Fork, and six sisters, Rae Scott of Alexandria, Beulah Myers and her husband Pete or Pulaski, Rebecca Harman of Princeton, W.Va., Ruby Runions and her husband Robert of New Kent, Ruth Conklin of Richmond and Eleanor Beach and her husband Robert of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the George W. Seaver Funeral Home Chapel in Princeton, with the Rev. Randy Adkins and the Rev. Rodney Davis officiating. HALL, Ronald N., Sr., 56, of Roanoke, died Friday, November 15, 1996, at his home. Surviving are three sons, Ronnie N. HALL, Walter A., 89, of Ivanhoe, died Saturday, November 16, 1996 in Kegley Manor in Bastian, Va. He was born in Elliston, Va. the son of the late Walter B. and Lucy Helm Hall. He was a retired foreman of the National Carbide Company and served with the Wythe County Sheriff's Department for more than ten years. After his retirement, he served as a security guard at the New Jersey Zinc Company. He was a member of the Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge #235, A.F. & A.M.; former member of the Ivanhoe Band and former catcher with the Ivanhoe Baseball Team. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kathleen Sangster Hall; and a sister, Minnie H. Heslep. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Roger Repass of Rt. 3, Max Meadows; two grandchildren, Eric Sean Repass and John Stewart ``Bo"" Repass; one great-grandchild, Michael Anthony Repass; one sister, Elizabeth O. Repass of Salem; one brother, Roy N. Hall of Suffolk. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, November 18, 1996 at the Barnett Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. HARRIS, George Terril, 87, of Galax, passed away Thursday, November 14, 1996 in the VA Hospital in Salem. Mr. Harris was born in Roanoke County on April 4, 1909 to George Thomas Harris and Nancy Adeline Booth Harris. He is survived by his wife, Mrs . Ella Goldie Jones Harris of the home; one daughter, Wanda Jean Harris, Galax; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church of Galax with the Reverend Carroll Golden officiating. Burial will follow in the Felts Memorial Cemetery with Military Rites by Hillsville VFW Post 1115. HIBBARD, Carl Wesley, Jr., 53, of Vinton, went home to be with the Lord Friday, November 15, 1996. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church, where he served with the youth choir and assisted in the children's Sunday School. He was employed by Old Dominion Memorial Gardens as a Grief Counselor, and was an Army Vietnam Veteran. Surviving are his wife, Alice Smith Hibbard; two daughters and one son-in-law, Joyce Elizabeth Hibbard, Floyd, Rebekah and Eric McGeorge, Vinton; son, Andy Hibbard, Vinton; grandson, Corey Alexander, Floyd; brother, Larry Hibbard, Rome, Ga.; two aunts, Ann Wilson, Atlanta, Ga., Irene Maloney, Greensboro, N.C.; niece, Stephanie Hibbard, Baton Rouge, La.; nephew, Douglas Hibbard, Rome, Ga. McNEILL, David Michael, 34, of Fincastle, died Friday evening, November 15, 1996, following a six-month battle with lung cancer. David graduated from Lord Botetourt High School and served in the United States Marine Corps. He graduated from National Business College and worked in the accounting department at Rowe Furniture Company in Salem. He is survived by his beloved friend and partner, Robin Adams, and her children of Fincastle; his parents, Charles S. and Jeanne W. McNeill of Daleville, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles S. (``Chuck"") McNeill of Daleville, Steven and Bonita McNeill and their children of Omaha, Neb., and Garth and Alice McNeill and their children of Daleville. OETGEN, G. Harry, 88, of Roanoke, died Friday, November 15, 1996. He was born January 5, 1908, in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Catherine Roane Oetgen; and a son, George R. Oetgen. He served the New York Central Railroad for 49 years. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald R. and Barbara B. Oetgen, Salem; granddaughter, Lauren C. Oetgen, Columbus, Ohio; grands on and his wife, Brian B. and Kathleen I. SHORTT, Lala Pendleton, 89, of Floyd, died Friday night, November 15, 1996, in Skyline Manor Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Forest L. Shortt, and a son, John Abe Shortt. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, McCrey and Joyce Shortt of Floyd, and Marshall and Joyce Shortt of Newport News; seven grandchildren, Calvin Shortt, T imothy Shortt, Michael Shortt, Mark Shortt, Cathy Bratton, Vicky Wade and Vera Thompson; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Tot Ashby of Newport News and Vada Willis of Bassett, and a brother, Claude Pendleton of Stuart. SKIDMORE, Edward Guy, 76, of 600 W. Wolf Street, Narrows, died Friday morning, November 15, 1996 in the Giles Memorial Hospital at Pearisburg. He was born at Skyles, W.Va. on March 26, 1920, and was the son of the late Thomas S. and Myrtle Whaling Skidmore. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Delbert Skidmore, Ralph Skidmore, Earl Skidmore; a sister, Eula Skidmore. He served as Mayor of the Town of Narrows for two terms, and was one of the founders of the Celco Credit Union, a Veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a charter member of the Narrows Fire Department, a member of the American Legion Post #68 OF and the V.F.W. Post #6000, both of Narrows. He was a retired employee of the Hoechst/Celanese Fibers Company Plant at Narrows, having been employed there for 46 years. The last 11 years of his employment he served as Paymaster of the plant. He was a volunteer tutor at the Narrows Elementary School, and was a founder of the Virginia Tech Credit Union, and was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, where he had served as a Past President of the Parish Council. Mr. Skidmore had served as a Troop Leader for the Boy Scouts of America, he graduated from the West Virginia Business College, and attended V.P.I. and State University. He was a member of the Industrial Council. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Z. Skidmore, Narrows; three sons, Edward G. Skidmore, Jr. and his wife, Jill of Pearisburg, David A. Skidmore and his wife, Mary of Bluefield, Va., Mark G. Skidmore and his wife, Venita of Narrows; a daughter, Mary Catherine McClintock and her husband, Wes of Tazewell; two sisters, Freda Robertson, Rich Creek, Edna Harrell, Narrows; two brothers, Thomas Skidmore, Richmond, Richard Skidmore, Narrows; five grandchildren, Vance, Dawn, Elizabeth, Bryan and Samantha Skidmore; several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday morning at 11 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Pearisburg, with Father Louis Benoit officiating.
