American Electric Power Co. is lowering Claytor Lake for the second time in two weeks to help with a lake cleanup.
Heavy rains delayed plans to lower it earlier this month, as requested by the Friends of Claytor Lake. The organization asked for the lake to be lowered by five feet to make it easier to clean up debris along its banks.
The second lowering ended last weekend. The lake will stay five feet below its full pond level until Dec. 1.
The Friends organization, open to all lake residents and users, is encouraging those living along the like to take advantage of the lowering to clean up their shoreline.
Residents, homeowner associations, neighborhoods and others interested in the lake can gather debris from their shorelines within the next few weeks. The debris should be piled up and allowed to dry so it can be burned before the end of the month.
