WRECK KILLS TWO PCHS STUDENTS

A teen-age brother and sister died Monday morning on their way to Pulaski County High School when the boy pulled his car in front of a pickup truck.

Christopher Yonce, 17, drove onto U.S. 11 from Virginia 643 into the path of the truck, police said.

The truck, driven by John L. Prescott of Pulaski, collided with the right side of Yonce's car, according to state police Sgt. M.D. Dowdy.

Both Yonce and his 15-year-old sister, Stephanie, died at the scene. Dowdy said Prescott was treated for minor injuries and released from a hospital .

Dowdy said it was unclear whether the teen-agers were wearing seat belts because rescue personnel had gotten them out of the car before the trooper arrived.

Both teens were students at Pulaski County High School and appeared to be on their way to the school when the accident occurred, Dowdy said.

Jim Kelly, principal of the school, said no general announcement was made about the deaths, but teachers were informed and the news soon spread. Additional counselors and psychologists arrived to talk with students.

Kelly said several students talked with counselors Monday.

Superintendent Bill Asbury and Kelly will visit with the family today. Until then, he declined to release any information about the senior and his sister, who was a sophomore.
