Mark Lilly must serve 49 years

Mark Lilly, the 21-year-old Riner man who pleaded guilty Monday to eight charges in connection with the carjacking and murder of a Virginia Tech student last December, was sentenced to 97 years in prison for his part in the crime spree. Montgomery County Circuit Judge Ray Grubbs said Tuesday that Lilly must serve 49 years, after which the rest of his sentence will be suspended for 20 years.
