The Rev. Mark William Radecke, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church for more than 18 years, will leave the staff Dec. 22 to become chaplain to Susquehanna University, a Lutheran school in Selinsgrove, Pa. Radecke, 43, has been active in the association of Raleigh Court churches and in Roanoke Area Ministries ecumenical service agency. He is married to Tami Miller Radecke.
Lee Roesti of Holidaysburg, Pa., will become director of music at College Lutheran Church in Salem on Jan.2. He will succeed Mildred Heimlich, who is retiring after a career at Radford University and several other Lutheran churches. Roesti, who holds a doctorate in music, has been on the staff of two Pennsylvania Lutheran parishes.
The Rev. Michael Moore has begun his ministry at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, having graduated this year from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He succeeds the Rev. Dr. Vernie Bolden, who left the pastorate two years ago. Moore, 40, was reared in Baltimore and studied at Morgan State University. He was a draftsman before entering the seminary.
The Rev. Andrew S. Good, a former Roanoker, has returned as pastor of Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church in Vinton. A graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Good is 52 and has come from a 13-year pastorate in Virginia Beach. Following the departure of the Rev. Gerald Stone three years ago, the Vinton parish has been served by the Rev. Fleet Powell as interim minister. Good and his wife, Anne, have two adult children, Cherie and Adam Good.
The Rev. Douglas W. Pedigo has become minister of music at Belmont Baptist Church, succeeding Vickie Hoffler. Pedigo, ordained by Vinton Baptist Church in 1990, is a graduate of Carson Newman College and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has most recently been on the staff of North Roanoke Baptist Church. He is 37 and married to Cynthia M. Pedigo.
Carolyn Pesaturo of Sarasota, Fla., has joined the staff of Camp Bethel Conference Center for a year of Brethren Volunteer Service. The mother of five and grandmother of eight is assisting with the center's program of church-planning retreats. BVS members carry on ministries at their own expense where needed throughout the world. |MUSICAL EVENTS| Worthy of Worship, a concert by music directors and instrumentalists from many churches, is scheduled Sunday at 7 p.m. at Oakland Baptist Church, 3623 Round Hill Ave. N.W. An offering will be taken.
At Williams Memorial Baptist Church, 2105 Carroll Ave. N.W., a candlelight program of music and art with handbells is planned Sunday at 6 p.m.
The King Singers will perform Saturday at 7 p.m. at Maranatha Fellowship Church, 2715 Green Ridge Road.
Home for Christmas, a seasonal musical and festive meal, will be presented Dec. 6 and 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Greene Memorial United Methodist Church in downtown Roanoke. The $16 tickets are available by calling 344-6225 for reservations. |SPECIAL EVENTS| A blood drive, sponsored by more than a dozen congregations in the Williamson Road and Hollins areas, will take place Monday at St. Philip Lutheran Church, 8115 Williamson Road from 1:30-7:30 p.m.
The 81st anniversary of Pilgrim Baptist Church will be observed Sunday with special worship at 4 p.m. led by the Rev. Clarence Johnson and with the choir of Elm Grove Baptist Church in Reidsville, N.C. A former Roanoker, Johnson is a 1979 graduate of the divinity school of Shaw University and has been at the Reidsville church since 1980. Pilgrim Baptist is at 1415 Eighth St. N.W.
The Catholic Museum, 624 N. Jefferson St., is displaying a collection of creches during Advent. The museum and its gift shop will be open this weekend and next, 4-5:30 p.m. on Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays.
New Grace Baptist Church, 1214 Peters Creek Road N.W., will conclude jubilee services Friday at 7:15 p.m. with the Rev. Terry Johnson of Tazewell County leading music. Sunday, the Blue Grass Inspirations will perform for Old Fashion Day. Call 384-6260 for more information.
A contemporary service, Daybreak, is under way at Oakland Baptist Church, 3623 Williamson Road N.W. It is in session each Sunday morning from 8:45 to 9:30 and features informal dress, vibrant music by guest performers and dramatized messages.
Howard Baldwin, evangelist and artist, will conclude a revival meeting Friday night at 7 at Hollins Road Baptist Church, 3502 Old Mountain Road N.E.
Lakeside Baptist Church, 447 Dalewood Ave., Salem, has scheduled Vietnam War veteran Tim Lee as its guest speaker Sunday. Lee, who lost both legs in a land mine explosion, will speak at the 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. programs.
