BRADLEY, Lillian Byers, 85, of Route 1, Vesuvius, died Thursday morning, November 21, 1996, at her residence. Born June 20, 1911 in Amherst County, she was the daughter of the late James William Byers and Florence Stinnett Byers. Mrs. Bradley was a member of the Oronoco Church of the Brethren, and was a member of Oronoco Home Demonstration Club. She is survived by her husband, Lowell Mason Bradley, Vesuvius; daughter, Evelyn B. Whitten, Vesuvius; daughter and son-in-law, Maxine B. and Ashby Davis, Vesuvius; son and daughter-in-law, Arnold Lewis and Rosa Bradley, Amherst; four sisters, Essie B. Lanum, Buena Vista, Odell B. Reynolds, Buena Vista, Ruth Bradley, Amherst, Dimply Wilson, Lynchburg; four brothers, Ray Byers, Richwood, W.Va., Berry Lawhorne, New Jersey, Rev. Earl T. Byers, Columbus, N.C., Carl Byers, Buena Vista; nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 23, 1996, at 11 a.m. from the Oronoco Church of the Brethren with Rev. Arnold Bradley, Rev. Randy Watts, and Rev. Earl T. Byers officiating. CARPER, Phyllis Carter, of Pearisburg, died Thursday, November 21, 1996 in Lewis Gale Hospital in Salem, Va. Mrs. Carper was born in Roanoke, Va. and was a daughter of the late John W. Carter, Sr. and Evie Shorter Carter. Mrs. Carper was a member of the Pearisburg Presbyterian Church, an Elder of the presbyterian Church, served as Worship Committee Chairman of the Church , was a Past President of the Pearisburg Presbyterian Women, Circle Chairman numerous times, was awarded an honorary life membership in the Presbyterian Women, was a Past President of the Pearisburg Women's Club and was a member of the Giles County Historical Society. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Elliott (Doris) Halted of Princeton, W.Va.; two brothers, John W. Carter, Jr. of Princeton, W.Va., and Edward D. Carter of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 23, 1996, at 11 a.m. in the Pearisburg Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Alan Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, Va. CRAIGHEAD, Trudy Conner, 82, of Callaway, was called home Wednesday, November 20, 1996. Born May 31, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Edw ard A. and Doshie C. Conner. She was of the Presbyterian faith. Surviving are her husband, Ralph Craighead of the home; two daughters and one son-in-law, Carol and Marshall Hodges of Callaway, Linda Craighead of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Lilly Craighead of Callaway, Everette and Patricia Craighead of Verona, Gene and Joy Craighead of Callaway; one sister, Bessie Conner of Boones Mill; eleven grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 1996, at Monte Vista Church, Callaway, with Rev. Robert R. Jones officiating. CROUCH, Hallie Burnette, 87, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday, November 20,1996 in Richfield Nursing Home, S alem, Va., after a long illness. She is the widow of Thomas Edward Crouch. Born in Bedford Co., she was the daughter of the late William Lafayette Burnette and Bertha Jane White Burnette. She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Mrs. Crouch was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and a retired employee of N & W Overall Company. Survivors include one sister, Evelyn Crouch of Salem; one stepson, Dinskey Crouch of Salem; one stepdaughter, Doris C. Pease of Hartwell, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Eleanor Burnette of Lynchburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday from Whitten Timberlake Chapel, by the Rev. Wayne Wiley. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial park. EDWARDS, Henry Everett, 58, of Route 1, Box 79-A, Thornspring Road, Pulaski, died early Thursday morning, November 21, 1996, at his home. He was born in Pulaski on November 5, 1938, and was the son of the late Rupert C. Edwards and Minnie E. Edwards. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army. Mr. Edwards worked with the Heritage Builders of Salem. Surviving are his wife, Katherine Edwards of Pulaski; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Tim Gregory of Pulaski, Kaye and Brett Hedge of Dublin, and Pam and Billy Williams of Dublin; one granddaughter, Demi Katherine Milstead, and four sisters, Viola Hawks of Cana, Elizabeth Phillips of Iron Dale, Ohio, and Mae Cox and Evelyn Burton of Pulaski. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, with the Rev. Randall Lawrence and the Rev. Dale Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Thornspring Cemetery, Pulaski County, with Pulaski VFW Post #1184 conducting the military graveside rites. FLEENOR, Ruby G. Dinsmore, 87, of Mendota, died Thursday, November 21, 1996. Funeral 11 a.m. Saturday at Campbell Funeral Home Chapel, Abingdon.

GUSLER, Melvin Willard, 52, of Los Angeles, Calif., died of brain cancer in a Los Angeles hospital Tuesday, November 19, 1996. He was born at Ferrum September 30. 1944. He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam era in the Green Berets. He then lived a few years in New York, and remaining years in Los Angeles. He was a member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church, where he grew up. Mr. Gusler was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Dennis J. Williams Sr. He is survived by his parents, Charles W. and Laura Young Gusler of Ferrum; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Marie Gusler Williams of Roanoke, Virginia and Denver Atkins of Ferrum; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Jesse and Julia Gusler of Danville, Tommie Lee and Artie Gusler of Rocky Mount, Linwood and Linda Gusler of Martinsville, Junior and Carol Gusler of Goodview. Mr. Gusler leaves several nieces, nephews, and family. HUMPHREY, David Brice, 80, of Vinton, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 1996. He retired from General Motor Lines after 40 years of service. He was a member of Waverly Place Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, was a member of the Joyfull Sounds senior choir and was a member of the B.A.L.L. Team. He was preceded in death by brothers, Warran Humphrey and Walter Humphrey. He is survived by his wife, Janice H. Humphrey; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas B. and Gladys Humphrey of Vinton; daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Barry Thomas of Roanoke, Vickie Housman of Thaxton, Michele and Roy Wickham of Roanoke, and Tracy and Anthony Greene of Newport News; brothers, Earl S. Humphrey of Roanoke and Leonard R. Humphrey of Blue Ridge; sisters, Edna Garrett of Williamsburg and Annie Laura Thompson of Weaverville, N.C.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and a special friend, Marion Helms of Salem. JENNELLE, Robert Edwin, (``Bobby''), 64, of Pearisburg, died Wednesday, November 20, 1996, in the Veterans Hospital, Richmond. Mr. Jennelle was born on April 22, 1932, and was a son of Robert Early and Dollie DeHart Jennelle. Mr. Jennelle was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a former employee of APG Lime Plant in Klotz, Va. Mr. Jennelle was also a member of the Green Valley United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Linda Carter Jennelle of Pearisburg; one son, Tim T. Jennelle of Pearisburg; one daughter, Lisa J. Mullins of Narrows; one sister, Bebe J. McCroskey of Pearisburg; two grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 23, 1996, at 2 p.m. in the Givens Funeral Chapel, Pearisburg, with the Rev. David Olinger officiating, with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, with military honors by the American Legion and the V.F.W. MABRY, Joseph Dewey, 89 of Newport News died Wednesday, November 20, 1996 in Newport News. He was a native of Buchanan and a resident there most of his adult life. For 35 years Mr. Mabry served as a rural mail carrier in Botetourt County. Mr. Mabry was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Arehart Mabry and is survived by his daughters, Yvonne M. Kirtzer of Chicago, Ill, Sandra M. Sherwood of Williamsburg; son, (Col, Ret) Joseph M. Mabry of Florence, Ala.; eight grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 1996 in the Fairview Cemetery with the Reverend Mike Woody officiating. McCALLUM, Iris Snyder, 71, of Vinton, passed away Thursday, November 21, 1996, in a local hospital. She was retired from Eli Lilly. She was the wife and best friend of Ed McCallum, ceaseless and tireless worker for her family. She was loved by her family and friends, and was the daughter of the late Herbert and Luzzell Snyder. In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Sharon McCallum of Vinton, Buster and Emily McCallum of Salem, John and Linda McCallum of Vinton, and Eddie Jr. and Tinya McCallum of Greenville, S.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl McCallum Gordon and Paul Gordon of Blue Ridge; grandsons, Jimmy Lee McCallum of Roanoke, Drew Gordon of Blue Ridge, Darryl McCallum of Vinton and Shaun McCallum of Greenville, S.C.; granddaughters, Kristi McCallum of Charlottesville, Ashley McCallum of Vinton, Tandy Gordon of Blue Ridge, Leeanna McCallum of Vinton and Briana McCallum of Greenville, S.C.; great-grandson, Tyler Gordon; sisters, Gretna Hostuttler of Cave Spring and Phyllis Haupt of Bedford County; brothers, Jack Snyder of Vinton, Wesley Snyder of Westmoreland, N.H., Herb Snyder of Vinton, and Dave Snyder of Smith Mountain Lake, and many nephews and nieces. She was the wife of Edward Thomas Pettigrew Jr. In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons, Dean Arthur Pettigrew of Stannardsville, Alan Walter Pettigrew and his wife, Ann Reams Pettigrew, of Lynchburg; a brother, Eric K. Newb y Jr. of Radford; two sisters, Neata N. Stier of Fairfax, Charlotte N. Mitchell of Richmond; two grandsons, Alan W. Pettigrew Jr., William E. Pettigrew; two granddaughters, Megan A. RILEY, Ronald Joseph, Sr., 52, of Newport, died Wednesday, November 20,1996 at Giles Memorial Hospital. He was born in Grafmer, New Hampshire on October 25, 1944 to the late Harry Joseph and Florence Fouiner Riley and was also preceded in death by his brothers, Glenn, David, Raymond and Arthur, and a sister, Martha. He is survived by a son, Ronald J. Riley, Jr., Giles; four daughters, Stacy Smith, Lori McMillan, both of New Hampshire, Sentry Riley, Roanoke, and Julia Riley, High Point, N.C.; four grandchildren, Kasandra McMillan, Karysa Olivier, Alexandra Smith, all of New Hampshire, Chantell Rivens, Roanoke; four sisters, Dorothy, Alice, Nancy and Shirley, all of New Hampshire; and seven brothers, Harry, Albert, Edward, Roger, Robert, all of New Hampshire, Joseph, of Georgia and James of Tennessee; and two special friends, Audrey Riley and Teresa Howell. WALLER, Joseph Curtis, 65, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, November 17, 1996. He was born in Roanoke to the late Albert H. and Mildred Dodson Waller. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and retired from the Firestone Tire Company. Survivors include his wife, Mary Waller; one daughter, Christina S. Waller; one son, Joseph D. Waller; two stepsons, Franklin D. (Florence) Walker and Orlando V. (Ricarda) Walker; three sisters, Lucille Johnson, Philadelphia, Pa., Arlene Boyer, Salem, and Betty (Belford) Hunt, Roanoke; eight grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Margaret Boyd, Dorothy Boyd, and Barbara Waller; brothers-in-law, Robert H. Boyd and Gordon D. Boyd; his best friend, Nathaniel Hunt, all of Roanoke; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be Saturday, 11 a.m., at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. WRIGHT, James Blair, 93, of Wytheville, formerly of the Fries Summerfield Community, died Wednesday, November 20, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Mae Smith Wright; a sister, Thelma W. Roberts of Wytheville; three nephews and wives, Bo bby and Sarah Wright of Wytheville, Ted and Frances Brewer of Fries, and Roger Wright of Haymarket; and a niece and husband, Peggy and Swanson (``Cotton'') Burcham of Fries. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Hazel Sexton of Wytheville. Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 23, at 2 p.m. at the Summerfield United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Wright will lie in state at the church one hour preceding the funeral service. WYANT, William Moses, 74, of Christiansburg, passed away Thursday morning, November 21, 1996, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Bessie Boyd Wyant and Moses Hedrick Wyant. He was born in Summers County, W.Va. on March 25, 1922, and retired from Radford Arsenal in 1984, where he had been employed for 38 years. Surviving are his sisters and brothers-in-law, Emmer Boone, Mabel and Bill Maddy, Eunice and Luther Colinger; and special niece and nephews, Carolyn Maddy Bernstein, Billy Maddy Jr., Todd Linkous, Rodney Colinger, Hunter Maddy, and Ashley Linkous; and many other nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Sunset Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Dewey Weaver. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home
