VMI WALLOPS ALBRIGHT BY 58 CONLEY, QUARLES LEAD ROUT

Brent Conley scored 19 points and Andre Quarles added 18 as VMI opened its basketball season with a 111-53 victory over Division III Albright on Friday night at Cameron Hall.

The Keydets had a double-digit lead, 28-17, eight minutes into the first half and led 63-39 at the half. Albright (0-1) tried to keep pace with 3-pointers, but hit only 1 of 12 for the game.

Darryl Faulkner had 15 points for VMI, while Matt Matheny added 14, Aaron Demory 13 and Maurice Spencer 11.

Shawn Swavely and Dwight Davis scored 12 apiece for Albright.

The margin of victory, 58, was a VMI record, eclipsing a 49-point victory over Bluefield College in 1990. The 63 first-half points also was a school record.
