Tournament MVP Marlo Ferguson scored 21 points as Ferrum edged Emory & Henry 65-63 in overtime Saturday to win the Ferrum Tip-Off Classic.
Ferguson also had eight rebounds and a team-high four assists for the Panthers (2-0). Former Glenvar High School star Marilea Hale added 11 points.
Ferrum's Melisa Buchanan grabbed 13 rebounds and six blocks to give her 23 boards and 13 rejections for the tournament. She joined Ferguson on the all-tournament team.
Angie Simpkins (Auburn) led Emory & Henry with 17 points.
Greensboro College beat Gettysburg 58-54 in the consolation game.
In other women's games:
Concordia (Minn.) 66, Roanoke 64: Leah Sonstelie scored 25 points to lead the Cobbers past the Maroons in the opening game of the Trinity University Invitational in San Antonio.
Suzanne Moore (Blacksburg) scored 19 points and Amy Athey added 12 for Roanoke, which was held to 32 percent field-goal shooting. The Maroons will meet host Trinity, a 73-67 loser to UC-San Diego, in the consolation game today.
Washington and Lee 46, Thiel 43: Ashley Miller and Jessica Morton scored 14 points each as the Generals (1-1) edged the Tomcats (0-2) in the consolation game of the Carnegie-Mellon Tip-Off Tournament in Pittsburgh.
Danyell Booker scored a game-high 16 points for Thiel.
Shenandoah 70, Hollins 59: Jill Van Guilder scored 13 points and Michelle Edenton added 12 to lead the visiting Hornets (2-0) past Hollins (1-1).
Amy Worley (Blacksburg) had a game-high 27 points and 18 rebounds for Hollins.
