RADFORD FALTERS AT THE END

Justin Farley scored 18 points and Evansville finished the game with a 17-0 run over the last 8:29 to beat Radford 68-47 on Sunday in Evansville, Ind.

The Aces (3-0) led 34-30 at halftime, but Radford (0-1) opened the second half with a 7-0 run over the first 2:40 of the half. Kevin Robinson scored five points during the run that made it 37-34

Evansville answered with a 15-4 run of its own, capped by a Stuart Sullivan 3-pointer, to take a 49-41 lead with 11:59 to play.

Radford closed to 51-47 on a 3-pointer by Corey Reed with 8:29 to play, but didn't score the rest of the game as the Aces ran off 17 unanswered points.

``At halftime, I thought we had a chance to win,'' said Radford coach Ron Bradley. ``Evansville's defense in the second half took us out of everything we like to do.''

Marcus Wilson added 17 points and Chris Quinn 10 for Evansville. Robinson led Radford with 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Reed added 13 points.

The Aces made 25-of-49 shots for 51 percent from the field, while Radford shot 37 percent on 18-of-49 shooting.

In other games:

Elmira 88, Washington and Lee 81: Len Smith scored 30 points to lead the Eagles past the Generals in the consolation game of the Elmira/Pepsi-Cola Tip-Off Classic. Washington and Lee (0-2) led 44-36 at halftime, but Elmira (1-1) opened the second half with a 12-0 run.

The Generals regained the lead on Zeb Mellett's 3-pointer with 13:23 left before Elmira took the lead for good with a 14-0 run.

Kelly Dyer led Washington and Lee with a career-high 22 points.

Women

American 69, No. 7 Virginia 6: At Washington, D.C., Nichole Grant drove the length of the court and scored on a 12-foot jumper with one second left to lead American to an upset.

With 17 seconds left and Virginia leading 65-64, Cathy Hebling made a 3-pointer to put American (2-0) ahead 67-65. Two free throws by Tora Suber of Virginia (1-1) tied it eight seconds later, setting up the final play.

Suber led four Virginia players in double figures with 18 points. Mary Klima led American with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Mount St. Mary's 73, Radford 58: The Highlanders committed 31 turnovers in falling to 0-2 on the season.

The Mountaineers (1-0) registered 15 steals and made five of 10 3-point attempts. Amy Langville led Mount St. Mary's with 23 points and was 3-of-5 on 3-pointers. Beth Buckett came off the bench to score 15 for Radford.

Roanoke 72, Trinity 55: Amy Athey had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Maroons to victory in the consolation game of the Trinity University Invitational at San Antonio, Texas. Carrie McConnell (Pulaski County) scored 13 points and Suzanne Moore (Blacksburg) added 12.
