Gifts to Radford U.

J. Patrick Graybeal, Juvenile and Domestic Relations judge for Montgomery and Floyd counties, and his wife, Jill, have donated $10,000 to Radford University. The money will be used to establish the Jill Lobach Graybeal Scholarship for students majoring in music education. The judge is a Radford University Foundation board member and the grandson of the first president of the university, John Prestion McConnell. Jill Graybeal is a faculty member and an alumna.

Charlene McClanahan Lutes, a resident of Blacksburg and a graduate of Radford University's class of 1959, has endowed the Avery and Bea Yates McClanahan Scholarship with a $26,959 gift. One student each year from the university's College of Arts and Sciences will receive the scholarship. Lutes recently retired as professor of biology and was chairwoman of the biology department.

American Electric Power Co. has made an in-kind donation of $29,357 to provide electric service to the university's Selu Conservancy Retreat Center. Radford City Florist has pledged $10,000 for the center. Its kitchen will be named in honor of the business.

Carilion Radford Community Hospital has given an electrocardiogram machine valued at $10,000 to the university's physical education department.

First National Bank has donated $30,000 to be given over three years. It will be used to create the Honors Program Scholarship, to be given to New River Valley residents who are Honors Program members and who participate in honors activities.

Alan and Barbara Parrish of Christiansburg have given a $27,500 life insurance policy for athletic scholarships.

Phi Gamma Delta, a fraternity at Virginia Tech, has donated more than 1,000 items to the Interfaith Food Pantry. The fraternity also gave $478 to the organization, to be used to buy meat and other perishable items.

Virginia Tech's Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity collected 1,700 pounds of food donated in neighborhoods near campus. The food will go to local charities.
