HOKIES' BRAINE ALL-CONFERENCE IN VOLLEYBALL

Sophomore Meredith Braine (Blacksburg High School) was the lone Virginia Tech volleyball player named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference team in voting conducted among the conference's head coaches.

Braine averaged 2.67 kills and 3.03 digs for the season.

Massachusetts outside hitter Dionne Nash was named player of the year and her coach, Bonnie Kenny, was named coach of the year.

In other news in the region:

* After being left off the media's All-Southern Conference football teams, VMI linebacker Mike Rogers was voted onto the first team on defense by the league's coaches.

Running back Thomas Haskins was a first team offensive selection. He also was named the coaches' offensive player of the year.

VMI strong safety Cornell Lewis was named to the second team on defense.

* Lee Taylor of Roanoke won the 15-year-old age group competition at the George Holliday Memorial Golf Tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The Patrick Henry High School freshman shot 71-74 for a two-day total of 145 on the par-72 Myrtle Beach National Golf Club course.
