TWO KILLED AS PICKUPS COLLIDE

Two Smyth County men died early Monday in a head-on collision.

Jason Allan Williams, 18, of Route 3, Marion, was traveling north on Virginia 658 about 6:35 a.m. when his pickup truck crossed over the center line and collided head-on with a pickup driven by Harold Lewis Crook II, 31, also of Route 3, Trooper P.D. Berry said.

Witnesses gave no indication as to why Williams' car crossed into the southbound lane.

Neither man was wearing a seat belt and both died at the scene, Berry said.

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
