PH GIRLS WIN 39-36 ON ROAD IN OPENER

Patrick Henry got 10 points each from Tanisha Durham and Troyleena Pate to edge Roanoke Catholic 39-36 at the Celtics' gym in the opener for both girls' teams Monday night.

The Patriots outscored the Celtics 16-4 in the third quarter to take control, then sealed the victory with their press in the final period.

Whitney Cummings led Catholic with 22 points, but only two other Celtics scored.

Boys

Timberlake Christian 96, Roanoke Valley Christian 89, 2 OT: Brian Morkion scored a game-high 33 points to lead the hosts to a double-overtime victory over the Eagles in the opener for both teams.

Mark DeLong scored 22 points for Roanoke Valley Christian.

Holy Cross 75, Carlisle 60: Marty Stanley scored 27 points, but the Chiefs were unable to overcome a sluggish second quarter and lost to the host Gaels in the opener for both teams.

John Bumgarner had 21 points to lead Holy Cross, which outscored Carlisle 23-9 in the second period. Abe Hughes added 14 points and Bart Wheeler had 10.

Chad Martin hit three 3-pointers and added 17 points for the Chiefs.

Bath County 58, Riverheads 41: Travis McGlothlin and Chris Wright scored 14 points apiece to lead the Chargers past the Gladiators in a season-opening game in Hot Springs.

Philip Neff added 12 points and Eric Nielson 10 in a game that saw Bath County lead 22-20 at halftime. Wright also pulled down 10 rebounds for the Chargers, who shot 52 percent from the floor for the game.

Scott Schuler scored 16 points for Riverheads.
