Dorms may get sprinkler systems

Gov. George Allen said he will find money to put sprinkler systems in 12 high-rise dormitories at state colleges, including five at Virginia Tech and one at Radford University. "This is a safety issue," Allen said Monday. The statement came less than a week after an Associated Press report on the potential hazard from the older high-rise dorms lacking sprinklers and, in some cases, standing taller than the tallest fire ladder truck in town.
