IN SERVICE

Navy Counselor Chief Petty Officer (Surface Warfare) Thomas A. Albert was promoted to his current rank during a pinning ceremony in September at the Naval Air Station Whiting Field, Milton, Fla. He is among a select group of Navy first class petty officers to earn this rank. Albert graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1981. He is the son of Clarence and Loretta Albert of McCoy. He is now stationed at Milton. He most recently completed a tour of Keflavik, Iceland, where he was assigned to the U.S. Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Iceland.

Retired Army Col. Dallas L. Cox was one of 46 Army officers to be inducted into the Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame at a ceremony at the Marshall Auditorium, Infantry Hall at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

Officers who are inducted into the Hall of Fame need to have attained the rank of colonel, or received the Medal of Honor or have themselves distinguished in civilian occupations. Cox lives in Dublin with his wife Betty.

Two area men recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. They are:

*Marine Pfc. Steven B. McGinnis, a 1996 graduate of Pulaski High School. He is the son of Steve and Annette McGinnis of Dublin.

*Marine Pvt. Paris Leon Trail, a 1994 graduate of Shawsville High School. He is the son of Gilbert and Linda Trail of Shawsville.

Air Force Airman David D.B. Luckado graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Training was for six weeks. Luckado graduated from Pulaski High School in 1996. He is the son of David Luckado of Pulaski.

Pfc. William Dee "Billy" Martin is completing his tour of duty in South Korea. Martin is in the 82nd Engineering unit. He is expected to return home to Newport in December. He is the son of Donnie and Debbie Martin and the grandson of Maldeen Martin, all of Newport. He also is the grandson of Sherman and Ruth Raines of Rich Creek and the great grandson of Talma Martin of Pembroke.
