*Ray Lester was the only Christiansburg Town Council member to vote against a request Tuesday by American Cable Entertainment for an affirmation of its license agreement with the town that would allow it to secure refinancing for a service upgrade.
"I have just not been satisfied with the cable service," Lester said. The company's offer of providing the town with quarterly updates on the progress of its upgrade will be "some help," Lester said, adding, "I'd like to see some progress from their side before we start giving them anything else."
Work on the upgrade could begin early in the new year. The cable provider wants to offer more channels and better reception, but will need to install new equipment, said Erv Strauss, general manager of the Radford-based company.
Council also reappointed Walter Price and James Pharis to the Recreation Commission, and appointed Kristen Habeeb, a student at Christiansburg High School, as the student representative.
