A woman convicted of child abuse has been operating an illegal day care service at her home and allowed her son, a convicted sex offender, to look after children, according to a court complaint.
The subject of the complaint, Chantel Robinson-Ellison, 49, said she stopped providing day care several weeks ago.
Last month, police charged Robinson-Ellison with a misdemeanor for allegedly allowing her 14-year-old son to live where day care was provided. The boy was convicted in August 1995 of sexual battery, according to the Social Services Department complaint.
Meantime, a Circuit Court hearing is set Friday on a request by the department for an injunction to bar Robinson-Ellison from operating a day care business ``for which a license is required by Virginia law.''
Robinson-Ellison denied any wrongdoing and said social services officials and police were harassing her. ``They act as if there was a murder going on,'' she said.
Under the name Ella Jefferson, Robinson-Ellison was convicted in June 1989 of assault and battery of her son, according to the Social Services complaint.
