Brad Dunleavy scored eight of his 12 points in the first quarter Friday night to lead William Fleming to a 69-40 victory over E.C. Glass in a non-district game in Vinton.
The Colonels (2-0) outscored the Hilltoppers 19-4 in the first quarter to build an early lead. Fleming extended its advantage to 38-16 at halftime.
Charles Burnette added 10 points and Richard Wilson had nine assists and five points for the Colonels.
The Hilltoppers (1-1) were led by Ricky Duncan, who scored 12 points.
William Byrd 70, Glenvar 65: Mayo Wilson scored 21 points to lead the Terriers to a non-district comeback victory over the Highlanders on Glenvar's home floor.
The Highlanders led by 13 points in the third quarter, but the Terriers (1-0) fought back late in the quarter and outscored Glenvar 17-11 in the fourth for the victory. Kevin Stump contributed 20 points and Josh Wheeler added 10 for the Terriers.
Chris Evans scored a game-high 32 points to lead the Highlanders (0-2).
Lord Botetourt 70, James River 49: Sean Osborne scored 20 points, Michael Yates added 19 and Jason Hunt 15 as the Cavaliers routed the Knights in a non-district game in Daleville.
Lord Botetourt (2-0) led 37-30 at halftime and pulled away late in the game by switching defensive schemes. The Cavaliers had been playing man-to-man but changed to a zone defense and held James River (0-2) to only eight points during the rest of the contest. Lord Botetourt outrebounded the Knights 35-27.
Will Goad scored 13 points to lead James River. Quincy Springs added 10.
North Cross 59, Hargrave 53: North Cross rallied from a 32-21 halftime deficit to remain undefeated in Virginia Independent Conference play.
The Raiders (2-0, 2-0) were led by forward Jeff Baetz's 20 points and 10 rebounds. Baetz scored nine of his team's 11 first-quarter points to keep the Raiders close early. Michael Stoeckle keyed the decisive fourth-quarter run for North Cross, scoring 11 of his 16 points.
Larry Washington led the Tigers (1-1, 1-1) with 14 points.
Benedictine 74, Roanoke Catholic 32: The Celtics, traveling with just five varsity players, got out to an early lead but lost big to Benedictine in Richmond.
Roanoke Catholic (0-3) left two players home with the flu (including Brendan McCarthy, who scored 33 in the team's opener against Pulaski County) and one other was suspended.
Chad Wall led the Celtics with 13 points, including four 3-pointers. Terron Reed added 11. Zach Harrison and Ricky Foster had 13 apiece for Benedictine (2-0).
Roanoke Valley Christian 69, Holy Cross 59: The Eagles shut down the Gaels in the fourth quarter to come away with Virginia Independent Conference game at Lynchburg.
Chris Huffman scored 25 points for Roanoke Valley Christian (2-1, 1-1), Mark Delong and Brad Hutchins added 14.
Abe Hughes scored 20 for Holy Cross (2-1, 2-1).
Girls
Roanoke Valley Christian 58, North Cross 20: Rebecca Bryant scored 18 points to lead the Eagles (1-1, 0-1) to an easy victory over the Raiders (0-1) in the Blue Ridge Conference Tipoff Tournament.
Tiffany Dobbs scored eight of her 14 points in the third quarter as the Eagles outscored the Raiders 22-6. Bryant also grabbed 10 rebounds.
Michele Hamilton led the Raiders with nine points.
Stuart Hall 25, Roanoke Catholic 22, 2OT: Callie Spencer scored a game-high 13 points in a low scoring affair as Stuart Hall (1-0) topped the Celtics (0-3) in double overtime in the Blue Ridge Conference Tipoff Tournament at Roanoke Valley Christian.
Stuart Hall trailed 20-17 heading into the fourth quarter, but Spencer scored all five of their points in the quarter and the Celtics were held to two points to tie the score.
Neither team scored in overtime until only 17 seconds were left in the second extra period when Jennifer Davis scored her 10th point with a field goal to put Stuart Hall up by two. Spencer then hit one of two free-throw attempts when Stuart Hall got the ball back on a traveling violation.
Christy Hinman led the Celtics with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
