BOHON, Willard W., 74, of Salem, passed away Friday, December 6, 1996. Arrangements by Oakey's North Chapel.

BOWER, James Marvin, 86, of Riner, went home to be with his Lord on Friday morning, December 6, 1996, at his home. A loving father and grandfather who loved life and his family, he made the world a better place. He was a member of the Christiansburg Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was a finishing carpenter. The son of the late Dora and Mose Bower, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Roncervert. He was loved by everyone and will be missed by his wife, Mary Underwood Bower; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Royal, Lynchburg, Carolyn and Clyde Conner, Riner, Deborah and David Proffitt, Amherst, Diane and Tony Conner, Shawsville, Judy and Keith Duncan, Christiansburg, Lisa and Ted Blevins, Radford; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Brenda Bower, Gary and Connie Bower, all of Riner; two brothers, Dorsey Junior Bower, Blacksburg, Paul Bower, Christiansburg; two sisters, Ruth Ellis, Reba Grimes, both of Roanoke; 24 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, December 8, at the Christiansburg Pentecostal Holiness Church conducted by Rev. Richard Kingrea and Rev. Buford Linkous, with burial in the St. Matthew Church Cemetery. Friends may call any time after noon on Saturday at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

CAHERTY, Deane Law, 88, of Charlotte, N.C., died Thursday, December 5, 1996, at Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews, N.C. Mrs. Caherty was born in Franklin County, June 16, 1908, a daughter of the late Jesse Ben and Beulah Law. She was a longtime resident of Washington, D.C. and retired from the U.S. government. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was past Grand Marshall for the District of Columbia. At the time of her death, she resided with her niece, Linda Frith, in Charlotte, N.C. She is survived by one sister, Nancy Law Hodges, Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, Jesse Law Jr., Warwick, R.I.; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Federal Chapter #38, Order of the Eastern Star, 2211 Rosecroft Blvd., Fort Washington, MD 20744. Graveside services will be conducted Sunday, December 8 at 1 p.m. in Franklin Memorial Park with Dr. Joe Bryant officiating. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, at Flora Funeral Service, S. Main St., Rocky Mount.

CAREY, Henry H., (``Pete''), of 1101 Lyle Street, Bedford, died Friday, December 6, 1996, in the Veterans Hospital in Salem. Funeral arrangements by Bedford Funeral Home.

COOKE, Mary Krimm, 73, of Chesterfield, formerly of Covington, died Friday, December 6, 1996, in Lucy Corr Nursing Home, Chesterfield. She was the widow of Charles Claude Cooke, who preceded her in death in 1986. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Nicky and Mary Lucy Cooke, and Steve and Billie Cooke of Chesterfield, and Bill and Jackie Cooke of Roanoke; three brothers, Dickie Krimm of Baltimore, Md., Leo Krimm of Newport News and John Krimm of Gallopolis Ferry, W.Va.; five sisters, Edith Apperson, Esther Matheny, Ruth Warren, Barbara Norvell and Margaret Francis of Clifton Forge, and five grandchildren, Robin Cooke, Kathy Ferguson, Chris Cooke, Denny Cooke and Travis Cooke. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Covington, with Father David Knott as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. A Rosary will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Loving Funeral Home, Covington, after which the family will receive friends until 8:30 p.m.

COX, Charles Preston, (``Mike""), 75, of 7 Floyd Lane, Pulaski, died Friday morning, December 6, 1996, in High Point Regional Hospital, High Point, N.C. Born on June 3, 1921, in Pulaski, he was a son of the late Wadie Copenh aver Cox and James Clyde Cox. Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Shoemaker Cox, and a brother, E. Paul Cox Sr. He was retired from Pulaski Building Supply, where he had worked for many years, and was a veteran of World War II. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Barclay Cox of High Point, and two granddaughters, Mrs. Brian (Emily) Deal of Johnson City, Tenn., and Virginia Kim Cox of Fairfax. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Norman C. Wilhoit officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visiting will be any time after 2 p.m. Saturday, with the family receiving friends from 6 until 8 p.m., at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home.

DAVIDSON, William Martin, (``Bud''), 90, of Saltville, died Thursday, December 5, 1996, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. Mr. Davidson was a life-long farmer in the Beaver Creek area. He was a retired employee of Sprague & Henwood; and a member of Mountain View Church of God-New Quarry. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Lucy W. Davidson, Saltville; two sons, Graham S. ``Bear'' Davidson, Chilhowie, Charles Thomas Davidson, Saltville; one daughter, Mrs. Dale (Edith) Maiden, Bristol, TN one half sister, Mary E. Green, Detroit, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Kennith Maiden, David Maiden, Graham S. Davidson Jr., Susan D. Roark, Donna Davidson, Dawn ``Beth'' Davidson, Stephanie McCready, and the late Charles Maiden; three great-grandchildren, Stephanie Maiden, C. DYER, Audrey Via Sisson, 72, of Salem, died Friday, December 6, 1996, at her home. She was a member of Little Hope Primitive Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, C. FOX, Lucille Delp, 87, of Marion, died Thursday, December 5, 1996 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was the widow of Harold D. Fox. She was an active member of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church, and was a nurse at Richardson's Clinic for 39 years. She is survived by one daughter, Marivene Bryant Slemp of Marion; two sisters, Edith Cassell of Galax, and Virginia Perrino of Elk Creek; one brother, Perk Delp of Independence; two grandchildren, Susan Bryant Massey of Inman, S.C., and Nancy Bryant Parker of Roanoke; four great-grandchildren, Brooke Massey, Michael Massey, Katherine Massey, and Ryan Parker; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 8, at 2 p.m. at Mount Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. Carol Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery. FRIDLEY, Ruth Gladys, 82, of Elliston, died Thursday, December 5, 1996. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank V. Moses; and her parents, David Boyd Pulliam and Ora Lester Pulliam. HARMON, Earnest L., died December 6, 1996 in a Salem nursing home. He was a member of Greene Memorial Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II. JONES, Raymond, Jr., 29, of Roanoke, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 1996. He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Starkey Jones. Survivors include his father, Raymond Jones Sr.; two sisters, Melanie J. Gordon and April Walker; one brother, Michael A. Starkey; one nephew, Brandon Walker, all of Roanoke; grandmother, Mary Virginia Jones, Ph iladelphia, Pa.; grandfather, Walter C. Neamo, Wirtz; one aunt, Charlotte F. She was the daughter of the late John and Olive Pennington Samples, and was a retired supervisor for the Department of Social Services. Born in Rockbridge County on November 12, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Jane Moore Camden. She was a member of Lexington Baptist Church; and was the widow of Cecil Henry Shanks. She is survived by two daughters, Darlene Irvine, Lexington, and Debbie Gibson, Buena Vista; a son, Gregory Shanks, Natural Bridge Station; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Davis and Estelle Davis, both of Buena Vista; five brothers, Clyde Camden, Hinty Camden and Issac Camden, all of Lexington, George Camden and Frank Camden, both of Glasgow; stepmother, Emma Camden, Glasgow; two stepsisters, Bonnie Cooper, Fredericksburg, and Lou Ann Camden of Glasgow; two stepbrothers, Tommy Camden, Glasgow, and Johnny Camden, Lexington. SMITH, Freddie Joe, 44, of Dugspur, passed away Thursday, December 5, 1996, of a lingering illness with cancer. He was born April 8, 1952 in Carroll County. He is survived by his parents, Levi and Reba Smith of Dugspur; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Shane Gallimore of Hillsville; sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Randy Turman of Dugspur; brother, Michael Smith of Dugspur; three grandchildren, Kayla Gallimore, Joclyn Gallimore, and Johanah Gallimore; two nephews, Shawn Turman and Levi G. Smith; several aunts; one uncle. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, December 9, 1996, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville with Rev. J. B. Shelton officiating. TARDY, Marie J., 71, of Lexington, died Thursday, December 5, 1996, in Shenandoah Valley Health Care Center. Mrs. Tardy was born on June 4, 1925, in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Samuel Thomas Jarvis and Pearl Elizabeth McGuffin Jarvis. She was a member of Oxford Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Tardy was preceded in death by a son, Richard M. Tardy. Surviving are her husband, Jennings J. Tardy of Lexington; a son and daughter-in-law, David J. and Phyllis Tardy of Lexington; a daughter and son-in-law, Jean T. and Eddie Clark of Lexington; a special son, Jack Falls of Lexington; a stepdaughter, Gail Surber of San Antonio, Texas; four sisters, Martha J. THOMAS, Helen Hoover, 91, of Richfield Retirement Community, Salem, formerly of Covington, died Thursday, December 5, 1996. Miss Thomas was born April 30, 1905 in Roanoke, a daughter of the late Robert E. Thomas and Mary Hoover Thomas. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Covington, Roanoke Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, and Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She retired from teaching with the Covington school system after many years of service. Miss Thomas is survived by one brother, Robert E. Thomas Jr. of Roanoke; and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the graveside Monday at 2 p.m. in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor, with the Rev. James A. Rohne officiating. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Mahloy; a son, Calvin Willis; a sister, Sylvia Willis, and a brother, Willie Sutphin.
