Eleven West named Small Business of Year
RADFORD - Dennis Sayers and John Giesen say the credit for the success of their business, Eleven West, producer of screen-printed and embroidered garments and specialty products, should go to their customers and employees.
The business was selected this week as the Small Business of the Year by the Radford Chamber of Commerce.
Sayers said quality performance from each employee is critical because the business has only about 15 workers, some of whom have worked for the firm for about as long as it has been in business.
Originally started in a garage, Eleven West was incorporated in 1979. It has produced garments for Volvo GM, Heilig-Meyers, local schools and universities, as well as the Marine Corps, the Drug Enforcement Agency and the FBI Academy. Anticipating a bowl bid for Virginia Tech's football team, the company has already produced designs for garments and will print them when the team's bowl destination is announced today.
The company also makes printed balloons, pens, pencils, cups, buttons and other items.
Morning Glory Cafe moves from Cambria
CHRISTIANSBURG - Downtown Christiansburg will have a new business when the Morning Glory Cafe moves from Cambria to West Main Street in January.
The restaurant will move into the former location of the Christiansburg-Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce at 49 West Main St., itself the former long-time site of the Palace Restaurant.
Kimberlee Knoebel, who owns the cafe with her husband, Tom, said the move is the result of maintenance and lease difficulties in Cambria.
The restaurant will continue to have 54 seats, and will accommodate banquets. The rent at the new site will be only a little more than the rent in Cambria, Kimberlee Knoebel said.
She said she hopes the new location will continue to attract the restaurant's regular patrons, as well as downtown business people, shoppers, residents and travelers.
The restaurant will close Christmas Eve in Cambria and open Jan. 15 in downtown Christiansburg. Its hours for lunch are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 5:30 to 10 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday for dinner.
