2ND-HALF SURGE LIFTS KNIGHTS TO WIN OVER TERRIERS

Cave Spring rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit Saturday and held William Byrd to 16 second-half points to win a non-district battle 55-44 at Cave Spring.

Point guard Spencer Baird scored all 10 of his points after halftime to rally the Knights (2-0) from a nine-point deficit. Alex Phillips had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Knights.

Chad Stump scored 11 points and Josh Wheeler added 10 for William Byrd (1-1).

Petersburg 65, William Fleming 62, OT: Steve Bonner scored 20 points and Major Preston added 16 points as the Crimson Wave topped the Colonels in a non-district game in Petersburg.

Charles Burnett led William Fleming (2-1) with 27 points.

Roanoke Catholic 51, St. Vincent 49 OT: Terron Reed picked up his fourth double-double in as many games with 20 points and 24 rebounds as the Celtics picked up their first victory of the season over St. Vincent in Petersburg.

William Fleming JV 61, Covington Boys' Home 60: The Colonels' junior varsity rallied from a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter to nip the Indians at Covington.

Girls

Petersburg 42, William Fleming 36: In Petersburg, Lisa Mickens led the way with 17 points as the Crimson Wave topped the Colonels in a non-district matchup.

Terrell Jackson added11 points for Petersburg (2-1).

Shaunarey Walker led the Colonels (2-1) with 10 points.

Roanoke Valley Christian 80, Stuart Hall 38: Gina Guthrie and Rebecca Bryant chipped in 27 points each to lead the Eagles (2-1, 0-1) to a victory over Stuart Hall in the championship game of the Blue Ridge Conference Tipoff Tournament.

Guthrie added seven steals and Bryant had 14 rebounds. Stuart Hall could not keep up offensively as a tough man-to-man defense wore them down.

Jennifer Davis led Stuart Hall (1-1) with 16 points.

Roanoke Catholic 41, North Cross 37: Christy Hinman scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Celtics (1-3) to a victory over the Raiders (0-2) in the consolation game in the Blue Ridge Conference Tipoff Tournament.

North Cross led 35-32 with three minutes left before Roanoke Catholic made a late run, with. Hinman scoring five and Whitney Cummings, who finished with 12 points, adding three points in the final three minutes.

Michele Hamilton led the Raiders with 13 points.

Friday's game

William Fleming 50, E.C. Glass 39: Shaunarey Walker shook off foul trouble to score 10 of her 14 points in the second half to help the Colonels win a non-district girls' game at Lynchburg.

Alycia Garrison scored six of her 10 points in the fourth quarter to help William Fleming (2-0). Ranita Walker added 11.

Lauren Crank scored 17 for E.C. Glass.
