The Roanoke Express used a pair of goals in the third period to defeat the Richmond Renegades 4-2 Sunday in East Coast Hockey League action.
The Express (12-10-3) won for the third time in three games with the Renegades this season. Richmond has not lost more than once to any other team.
Roanoke forged a 2-0 lead after one period on goals by Sean Brown, his fourth of the season, and Ilya Dubkov, his sixth.
Richmond retaliated with a pair of goals in the second period to tie the score, but Roanoke goalie Dave Gagnon repelled the Renegades in the third period to notch the victory.
Eric Landry put the Express back in front with a goal only 44 seconds into the third period, his ninth of the season. Jeff Loder sealed the verdict with his 12th goal when he was left wide open in front of the Richmond net and beat Renegades goalie Manny Legace with a high shot.
Loder, a 20-year-old center, will be leaving the Express to join the Manitoba Moose of the International Hockey League beginning Wednesday. He had 23 points in 22 games for Roanoke.
The Express is off until Saturday, when it meets the Knoxville Cherokees at the Roanoke Civic Center.
