Choosing a Christmas gift for someone you've known all your life is not easy. That's why Evie Brown of Salem decided a donation to the Good Neighbors Fund was a good idea.
She gave in honor of her longtime friends Lee Hartman and Anne Hammersley, who were classmates of Brown's years ago at Andrew Lewis High School. They've been close friends for more than 50 years.
Brown said her friends didn't need anything material, so giving to the Good Neighbors Fund was the kind of gift they would enjoy more than anything else.
"They're wonderful people," she said. "And they've contributed a great deal to the Roanoke Valley.
"Besides, I love them."
