Derrick Rogers drove for a basket with seven seconds left to give Tunstall a 53-52 victory over Bassett in a non-district boys' matchup Wednesday night in Dry Fork.
Bassett had gone ahead 52-51 on Corey Manns' baseline jumper with nine seconds left. After a timeout, Tunstall's Lorenzo Preston hit Rogers with a length-of-court pass for the winner.
Bassett called time out, but got nothing more than Keith Harvey's desperation heave from near half-court.
Rogers scored 19 points for Tunstall (1-3) and LaShon Adkins added 10.
Andre Fuller's 20 points led Bassett. Orlando Gravley scored 11 and Manns had 10.
Fort Chiswell 85, Rural Retreat 69: Heath Bralley scored 12 of his 26 points in the second quarter as the Pioneers opened an 18-point lead and went on to defeat the Indians in a non-district game in Fort Chiswell.
Stephen Swecker added 12 points and Phillip Russell pulled down 10 rebounds for Fort Chiswell (1-1).
Todd Ridgeway scored 20 points, Wayne Terry 14 and Lance Short 10 for Rural Retreat (0-1).
Bland 66, Auburn 58: Bland built a 15-1 lead and held off Auburn down the stretch for a non-district victory in Bland.
Lee Meadows led the Rockets (1-1) with 13 points. Keith Puckett had 10 points and grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds in the victory.
Bland's John Thompson converted seven of eight free throws and scored 10 of his 12 points in the final quarter to hold off Auburn, which closed to 42-41 at the end of the third period.
Paul Morris and Josh Vaughn paced the Eagles with 15 points each.
Christiansburg 71, Giles 58: Eric Lucas scored 21 points to lead the Blue Demons to a non-district victory in Pearisburg.
Conan Morgan scored 19 and Scott Baker added 14 for Christiansburg (3-0).
Adam Jones led Giles (2-2) with 19 points. Jason Edwards added 12.
Blacksburg 51, Carroll County 25: Philip Klaus scored 15 points as the Indians (3-2) swamped the Cavaliers in a non-district game in Blacksburg.
Jeremy Ogle scored six points to lead Carroll County (1-3), which trailed by 15 points at halftime.
Marion 70, George Wythe 59: Matt Hanshew and Jake Hayes scored 15 points apiece as the Scarlet Hurricane (2-0) turned back the Maroons in a non-district game in Marion.
Damien Taylor led George Wythe (1-1) with 12 points.
Girls
Pulaski County 63, Tennessee (Bristol) 43: Katrina Williams scored 24 points as the Cougars cruised to a non-district victory over the Vikings in Bristol, Tenn.
Pulaski County (2-0) used pressure defense and superior rebounding to control the tempo and the game.
Samantha Halley and Courtney McDaniel scored 15 and 14 points, respectively, to lead Tennessee.
Tuesday's games
Fieldale-Collinsville 69, Dan River 55: At Ringgold, Marco Taylor and Lamont Perkins scored 28 of the Cavaliers' 45 second-half points in the Piedmont District victory.
Taylor finished with 22 points and Perkins 14 as Fieldale-Collinsville broke away from a tie at 42 late in the third quarter. Lloyd Tillman led Dan River with 25 points.
E.C. Glass 54, Franklin County 49: Ricky Duncan and Brian Wolanski scored 12 points each as the Hilltoppers (2-1) edged the Eagles (0-4) in a non-district game in Rocky Mount.
The Hilltoppers outscored the Eagles 18-10 in the second quarter for a five-point lead which they maintained in the second half. Telly Tucker contributed 10 points.
Kermit Noel led the Eagles with 12 points.
Halifax County 82, Magna Vista 65: Shannon Jennings scored 15 points as the Comets (2-2) put away the Warriors in a non-district game in South Boston.
The Comets outscored the Warriors 21-12 in the first quarter for an early lead. Ben Rand and Savughn Bailey added 13 and 12 points respectively.
Milner Harvey led the Warriors with 19 points.
Floyd County 80, Patrick County 60: Derek Saunders scored 13 points, had 10 rebounds, six assists, and four blocks to lead the Buffaloes past the Cougars in a non-district game in Floyd.
Jason Dalton contributed 24 points for the Buffaloes (3-0). Travis Cantrell added 16 points and eight assists.
Corey Reynolds had 18 points for the Cougars (3-1).
Blacksburg 69, Graham 52: Phillip Klaus scored a game-high 34 points to help the Indians (3-1) past the G-Men (2-1) in a non-district contest in Bluefield.
The Indians outscored the G-Men 21-10 in the second quarter for a 37-23 halftime lead and maintained the lead in the second half. Stefano Karmis and Krishna Pacifici scored 12 points each as the Indians avenged their previous loss to the G-Men.
Rusty Rose scored 20 points to pace the G-Men.
Girls, Franklin County 50, E.C. Glass 47: In Lynchburg, Franklin County forced 25 Hilltopper turnovers, but still had to hold off a furious Glass comeback in improving its record to 2-1. Glass (0-3) scored 20 points in the final quarter.
