IN SCHOOL

DAWN WETZEL and A. NICOLE STRICKLAND were chosen recently as finalists in the Department of Motor Vehicles license plate design contest. Each will receive a $500 U.S. savings bond. Their entries, along with 30 other finalists, will be judged for a grand prize. Wetzel is a junior at Cave Spring High School; Strickland is a senior at Patrick Henry High School.

LINDSEY DICKERSON was selected as the state winner of the Virginia Bar Association's 1996 Community Law Day poster contest. The poster representing the United States Constitution and the American dream was forwarded to Gov. George Allen. Dickerson is a fifth-grader at Raleigh Court Elementary School.

JOHN KOWALSKI was recently named the Virginia Biology Teacher of the Year for 1996 by the Virginia Association of Science Teachers. Kowalski teaches biotechnology and genetic engineering and is the science team leader at the Roanoke Valley Governor's School.

LORD BOTETOURT HIGH SCHOOL has announced the names of eight students selected to represent the school in the Virginia Choral Directors Association's All-District Chorus. The students are: Kristen Mayhew, Jeremy Vaughan, Nathan Delp, David Lewis, Richie Cannaday, Chris Shepperd, Amanda Beard and Beth Johnson.

The students will perform with the All-District Chorus Feb. 7-8 at Salem High School.
