TRUCK WRECK SLOWS U.S. 460 TRAFFIC

U.S. 460 traffic north of Blacksburg was slowed for several hours Thursday morning by an accident involving a rental truck.

Blacksburg police said the accident occurred around 6:55 a.m. when the Ryder rental truck, eastbound on U.S. 460 near the bottom of Brush Mountain, swerved to avoid a van that pulled out from Coal Bank Hollow Road.

The truck, driven by 28-year-old Kemp P. Skidmore of Charleston, W.Va., turned on its side after running off the highway's right side.

Skidmore was not injured. The van's driver, 47-year-old Jane Wemhoener of Blacksburg also was not injured.

Police said the truck sustained $35,000 damage. No charges have been placed.
