An auction held Saturday on two residences and an assortment of farm buildings at the site of the new Falling Branch Industrial Park was "quite successful," according to Don Moore, Montgomery County's economic development director.
Moore said the auction grossed about $15,000 for the county.
Previously, the county intended to sell the structures for about $2,500 and pay about $38,000 for their removal so grading work could begin.
Supervisor Joe Stewart halted that plan, saying the county could bring in more money by disposing of the structures by an auction.
Other board members agreed and voted to hold the auction, which was conducted by former Board of Supervisors Chairman Larry Linkous, a professional auctioneer.
Moore said everything that remained of two farms on the site was sold except for several silos. He said the expenses for the auction haven't been calculated.
Buyers were generally given 60 good weather days to remove the items, although the purchaser of a brick ranch house will be allowed up to nine months to move the structure intact, Moore said.
