BRYANT, Edna Alexander, 81, of Eagle Rock, died Wednesday, December 11, 1996. She was the widow of Albert L. Bryant. She is survived by a daughter, Adelia Long of Florida; a son, A. L. Bryant Jr. of Blue Ridge; grandsons, Mark Padgett of North Carolina, Kevin Padgett of Texas; sister, Mary Jane Petty of Newport News; and a brother, Lou Alexander of Hampton. CHAMBERLAIN, Doris L., 95, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, November 30, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winthrop W. Chamberlain and a son, Norman G. Chamberlain. Mrs. Chamberlain was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Richard and Carol Chamberlain of Moneta, Winthrop W., II and Patricia Chamberlain of Lake Almanor, Calif., Mrs. Norman (Elaine) Chamberlain of Gray, Maine; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Roanoke United Methodist Home (1009 Old Country Club Road, Roanoke, Va. 24017) or a favorite charity. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 1996 from St. John's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Thomas O'dell officiating. GARDNER, Elsie May, 94, of 320 Hershberger Rd., Roanoke, died Thursday, December 12, 1996. She is survived by a son, George V. Gardner of Naples, Fla. and Washington, D.C.; four granddaughters, Mrs. R. F. Dunlap Jr., Charlotte, N.C., Mrs. Sallie Gardner Turcott, Bartlesville, Okla., Mrs. Robert Ryther, Minneapolis, Minn., Ms. Anne Gardner, Roanoke; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Victor M. Gardner; a son, John N. Gardner; and a grandson, John N. Gardner II. Mrs. Gardner was born in New Castle, Pa. on October 9, 1904, the daughter of James D. Cann and Mayme Churchfield Cann. She was a lifelong member and worker in the Outreach Program of the Methodist Church in Pennsylvania and Florida. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Jupiter-Tequesta and Kings Chapel of New Castle, Pa. Services will be private and burial will be in the family plot in New Castle, Pa. HARDIMAN, Helen Harris, 84, of Moneta, died Tuesday, December 10, 1996, in Oakwood Manor. She was born in Cohoes, N.Y. on August 12, 1912, a daughter of the late William Henry Harris and Anna Theresa Therriault Harris. She worked as a librarian with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company until her marriage in 1938. She retired with her husband from the New York area to Moneta in 1973. She was a communicant of Resurrection Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband, James S. Hardiman Jr; two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen Thomas and Cindy Hardiman, Hackettstown, N.J., John William and Deborah Hardiman, Rogers, Ark.; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Ann and Steve Dorrler, Flemington, N.J.; eleven grandchildren, Terrie and her husband, Charles, Mark, Jennifer, Billy, Scott, Sharon and her husband, Bryan, Tom, Deborah, Nicole, Julie, and Mark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Sunday, December 15, 1996, at 2 p.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. James J. Begley officiating. JOHNSON, Daisy Naomi, 66, of Lexington, died Thursday, December 12,1996 in Lewis-Gale Hospital, Salem, Va. She was born October 6, 1930 in Goshen, the daughter of the late James Y. and Nettie Plogger Hall. She was a member of the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints. Surviving are her husband, Andrew M. ``Sonny"" Johnson, Jr.; three daughters, Brenda Rhodenizer, Midlothian, Robi n G. Mock and Vickie E. Stanley, both of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three sons, Donald Edward Stubblefield, Lexington, Wayne Lee Chittum, Buena Vista, Allen Jay Chittum, Rockbridge County; and 12 grandchildren. KENNEDY, Louise Reynolds, 79, of Route 5, Bedford, died Thursday, December 12, 1996, in Carilion Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born in Bedford County on January 26, 1917, a daughter of the late Bernard Cecil Reynolds and Hettie Irene DeWitt Reynolds. She was a member of Peaks Presbyterian Church, and was an election officer for the Kelso district for over 50 years. She is survived by her husband, H. Carl Kennedy; one son, Vernie C. Kennedy, Bedford; one brother, John M. Reynolds, Bedford; one sister, Clara Eubank, Bedford; one granddaughter, Denise Alaine Kennedy, Bedford; numerous nieces and nephews. LETSINGER, Robert Burton, (``Bob''), 74, of Rich Creek, died Wednesday, December 11, 1996, in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke. He was born in Lundale, W.Va. on November 12, 1922, and was the son of the late Roy Love Letsinger and Mary Sweet Letsinger. He was a graduate of Man High School and attended Bowling Green Business University until entering the U.S. Navy. He was a First Class (1C) officer of the USS Anchor during World War II. He was a member of the Bruce McDonald United Methodist Church of Man, former owner of the Man theater, and co-owner of the Junction Drive In Theater and the W & L Party Store in Man, W.Va. He retired from Joe Crum Ford in Pearisburg in 1987. He was a member of the Aracoma Masonic Lodge #99 of Logan, W.Va., a member of the Giles Shrine Club, a 32nd Degree Mason, and member of the Beni-Kedem Shrine Temple of Charleston, W.Va. He was a member of the American Legion Post #68 of Narrows, V.F.W. Post #6000 of Narrows, and secretary of the Rich Creek Lions Club. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty Lucille Perry Letsinger of Rich Creek; daughters, Mrs. John (Mary Ruth) Hale of Man, W.Va., Ms. Virginia Lee Moran of Valrico, Fla., Mrs. Dave (Betty Lou) Anderson of Orlando, Fla., Mrs. Russell (Beatrice Perry) Miller of Chapmanville, W.Va.; brother, Roy Donald Letsinger of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister, Mrs. Ruth Love Kukshtel of Warner Robbins, Ga.; grandchildren, John Robert, Christopher Donald and Jennifer Louanne Hale of Man, W.Va., Robert Dean and Lindsey Ra e Cook of Chapmanville, W.Va. A native of Roanoke, Mrs. Schoenberger was a former member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and was a present member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She was a member of the Greensboro City Club. She was a past president of both the Wildwood Garden Club and the Guilford College Art Appreciation Club, and was also a member of the Round Table Discussion Group, and former treasurer of the St. Andrew's Chapman Chapter. She is survived by her husband, William E. Schoenberger of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Barbara Murray of Roanoke, and Michael A. Sr. and Jill Murray of Greensboro; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth Lorraine Murray and Madeline Louise Murray of Roanoke, and Magan Elisabeth Murray and Michael A. Murray Jr. of Greensboro. WHITEHEAD, Mary Hurt, 94, of Ferrum, died Tuesday, December 10, 1996. She was the daughter of the late John Kemper and Lelia Angle Hurt. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Estelle Whitehead Olson; sister and brother, Ruth H. Ingram and Frank B. Hurt. Mrs. Whitehead was the proprietor of Ferrum Drug Company for many years, and a resident counselor at Bassett Hall, Ferrum College, from 1965-1980. After retiring from Ferrum College she was an active volunteer in the Franklin Memorial Hospital auxiliary. Mrs. Whitehead was a long-time member of St. James Methodist Church. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Gloria W. and Cletis Burnett of Rocky Mount; one son and daughter-in-law, Royal (Buck) and Evelyn Whitehead of Ferrum; six grandchildren, Ken Burnett, Eden, N.C., Lynn Hughes, Chester, Gail Shirley, Richmond, David Bray Whitehead, Oceanside, Calif., Michael Whitehead, Newport Beach, Calif., Mark Whitehead, Las Vegas, Nev.; nine great-grandchildren.
