Mac Garner scored 22 points as Galax overcame a 3-for-11 performance at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to turn back Shawsville 52-45 on Thursday in a non-district boys' game in Shawsville.
Scott Hall added 12 points for Galax (3-1). Larry Smith had 16 points and Jason Horne 15 for Shawsville (0-3).
Wednesday's games
Alleghany 74, Covington 72: Casey Burks finished strong for the Mountaineers by scoring 19 points in the fourth quarter to lead Alleghany's comeback victory over the Cougars in Low Moor.
The Mountaineers scored 32 points in the fourth to rally from a 13-point deficit. Burks made a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth and gave Alleghany the lead for good with a pair of free throws with one minute left.
Burks finished with 22 points and Travis Davis scored 20.
Tracey Walker led Covington with 22 points.
Parry McCluer 55, Riverheads 47: David Downs hit five 3-point goals and scored a game-high 20 points as the Fighting Blues (3-0) pulled away for a non-district victory in Staunton. Riverheads (0-5) was led by Scott Farrow with 16 points.
