Virginia running back Tiki Barber and Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer received the top awards for the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association Division I All-State Football Team. Barber was named the state player of the year, and Beamer was selected the state coach of the year for the second consecutive season.
Virginia had nine players named to the team, Virginia Tech five, James Madison four, William and Mary four and VMI two. (Complete team in Scoreboard. B12)
Thirteen players are repeat selections from a year ago, including Virginia Tech defensive lineman Cornell Brown and Barber.

nAbout 200 tickets remain for Sunday's North Carolina-VMI basketball game at Cameron Hall. The seats, spread throughout the 5,000-seat arena and some in prime locations, were left when not all cadets picked up their reserved tickets.
Seats are $15 each for the 4:30 p.m. game, and are available only at the Cameron Hall ticket office, which will be open today from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. No phone or mail orders are being accepted.
nWilliam and Mary's Waughn Hughes and Virginia Commonwealth's Christina Kenney head the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association men's and women's all-state soccer teams. Hughes, a former Roanoke RiverDawgs player who had 24 goals for the Tribe, was named the men's player of the year while Kenney, a senior forward who led the Colonial Athletic Association with 26 goals, was named the women's player of the year.
William and Mary's Al Albert was named men's coach of the year and James Madison's David Lombardo was named women's coach of the year.
Virginia had four first-team men's picks - defenders Matt Chulis and Scott Vermillion and midfielders Mike Fisher and Ben Olsen. Three Virginia players - defender Karem Esteva, midfielder Jennifer Rawlings and forward Angela Hucles - were named to the first team. Radford midfielder Jill McFarlane was also a first-team pick.
