WALT COMLEY has been named general manager of the AmeriSuites Valley View Mall hotel in Roanoke, where he will direct daily operations when the hotel opens in February.
Comley, who has more than 12 years of hotel management experience, most recently worked for Coleman and Bullington Hotels as a consultant to the Holiday Inn-Tanglewood.
Before that, he was the resident manager for the Roanoke Airport Marriott hotel and the front office manager at the Lansdowne Conference Resort in Leesburg.
ADVERTISING
SHERRY LOCKHART has been named account services representative at System4 Advertising Agency in Roanoke. She has worked for System4 on a part-time basis since 1990. Before that, she was an executive unit manager in direct sales for 20 years.
AGRICULTURE
C. WAYNE ASHWORTH, Pittsylvania County tobacco grower, has been re-elected president of the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation. Ashworth has been president of the organization since 1988 and has been a member of the board since 1973. Also, BRUCE L. HIATT has been re-elected vice president of VFBF. Hiatt, who owns and operates an apple and cherry orchard in Carroll County, has been vice president of VFBF since 1988 and has been on the board since 1981.
BANKING
REBA MANDEVILLE has been elected president and chief executive officer of the First National Bank of Clifton Forge, a subsidiary of Martinsville-based MainStreet BankGroup Inc. She joined the bank in 1971 as a secretary and customer service representative, and later worked as a bank auditor, vice president of operations and compliance officer. In 1993 she was appointed corporate secretary and was named senior vice president of operations in 1995.
ALAN MOORE has joined NBC Bank in Roanoke as vice president of private banking. Moore has more than 14 years of banking experience and has been a financial consultant with Wheat First Butcher Singer for the last 21/2 years.
DAVID STEWART has been promoted to branch manager of First Union National Bank of Virginia's Salem office. He joined First Union in 1994 in the management associates program in Charlotte, N.C., and since then has worked as assistant branch manager in the Salem and Tanglewood offices. JEFF LINICK has been promoted to branch manager of First Union's Williamson Road office. He joined the bank in 1995 and completed the management associates program in September.
HOSPITALITY
Camberley's Martha Washington Inn in Abingdon has appointed TROY THOMPSON executive chef and JOSEPH PANARELLO executive sous chef. In their new positions, they will be responsible for banquet operations. Thompson, who has more than 10 years' experience, comes to the Martha Washington from the Millennium Restaurant in the Georgetown Inn in Washington, D.C. Panarello has worked with Thompson for several years as the sous chef at the Millennium.
LAW
EDWARD B. WALKER has become associated with the Roanoke law firm of Mundy, Rogers & Frith. Walker is a 1996 graduate of Washington and Lee University Law School. He will concentrate his practice in the areas of personal injury, medical malpractice, domestic relations and traffic and criminal law.
MANUFACTURING
TERRY FISHER has joined Mod-U-Kraf Homes Inc. of Rocky Mount as territory sales manager for the recently opened market of eastern South Carolina. Fisher has more than 20 years experience in sales and marketing, most recently with North American Housing Corp. in Boones Mill.
MEDIA
JOHN A MONTGOMERY has been named general manager of the Blue Ridge Regional Business Journal. He will be responsible for the daily business operations of the company, including advertising, circulation, production and administration. Montgomery joined the Business Journal in 1992, and for the past four years has managed the advertising department. Prior to that, he was president and general manager of Johnson's Foods, and before that, worked for The Roanoke Times in advertising sales and management.
MORTGAGE BANKING
MARK A. STEVENSON has been named vice president and general manager of The Mortgage Company of Virginia, where he will be responsible for the management of the corporate office in Bassett and the branch offices in Christiansburg, Danville, Fredericksburg, Hillsville, Lynchburg, Martinsville and Roanoke. Stevenson was an account executive in the company's Christiansburg office for eight years before his promotion.
