Citing a rash of donor cancellations due to bad weather, the American Red Cross has issued an emergency appeal for O-negative, O-positive and A-negative blood.
All other blood types are welcome.
Upcoming donor sites in the New River Valley include the donor center on Jackson Street in downtown Blacksburg. Normally open on Tuesdays and Fridays, the center will be closed today. It will be open Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Dec. 23 from noon to 6 p.m., and closed Christmas Eve. It will be open New Year's Eve from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Other donor sites include Dec. 23 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Radford Parks and Recreation Building on First Street. Call 639-2140 for an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome.
A blood drive will be held Dec. 27 at St. Paul's Methodist Church on West Main Street in Christiansburg from noon to 6 p.m. Call 961-2207 for an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome.
The Red Cross will collect blood in Pearisburg Jan. 3 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 961-2207 for information.
