Travis Blankenship scored 19 points to lead James River to a 71-61 win Monday over Roanoke Valley Christian in Roanoke.
Quincy Springs added 14 points and Phillip Meador 12 as James River (2-4) held off a late rally by the Eagles.
Sophomore guard Brad Hutchins led Roanoke Valley Christian (3-2) with a career-high 24 points, but it was not enough. The Eagles cut the Knights' lead to four in the fourth quarter, but then missed a layup, a free throw and turned the ball over.
Chris Huffman added 16 for Roanoke Valley Christian.
Staunton River 54, Fieldale-Collinsville 48: Matt Roberts his three 3-pointers during the decisive second quarter as the Golden Eagles defeated the Cavaliers in Moneta.
Roberts' bombs keyed Staunton River's 17-5 advantage in the quarter. Fieldale-Collinsville made a late run, but the Golden Eagles (2-1) hit their free throws to put the game away.
Roberts finished with 24 points and Chris Martin added 12 for Staunton River.
Lamont Perkins scored 12 points, Joey Taylor 11 and Jamin Foster 10 for the Cavaliers.
Girls
Pulaski County 84, Mercer Christian 58: Trina Williams scored 20 points and Lisa Skeens added 12 as the Cougars downed Mercer Christian in Princeton, W.Va.
Pulaski County (4-0) jumped out to a 20-10 first-quarter lead and rolled to victory.
Amy Cecil scored 18 points for Mercer Christian (4-1).
