CHEMICAL SPRAY USED BY FOOD STORE ROBBER

A man robbed a North Roanoke County convenience store late Monday after spraying the clerk in the face with a chemical.

About 10 p.m., a man walked to the front counter at the Clipper Food Mart, 5626 Williamson Road, with an item to purchase. When the clerk opened the cash register, he sprayed her in the face. As she ducked, the man grabbed an undisclosed amount of money from the cash drawer and fled, police said.

Police have not determined what the chemical was.

The clerk was not injured.
