The New York Yankees finally filled the hole left by Jimmy Key's departure, agreeing Tuesday to a $13.5 million, three-year contract with David Wells.
Wells, a left-hander, became the Yankees' primary pitching target Friday after Clemens spurned New York and agreed to a $24.75 million, three-year contract with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Wells, 33, was 11-14 with a 5.14 ERA for the Orioles this year.

* Former Virginia Tech All-American Jim Pyne was placed on the injured reserve list by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Center Kevin Dogins, who has been the Bucs' practice squad, was signed to replace Pyne, a starting guard who broke his left leg during Sunday's 21-10 loss at Minnesota.
ETC. Van Dyken USOC Sportswoman of Year
Capping a year in which she became the first U.S. woman to win four gold medals in a single Games, Amy Van Dyken was named Sportswoman of 1996 by the U.S. Olympic Committee.
The 23-year-old swimmer received 48 first-place votes and a total of 848 points in balloting by USOC officials, athletes and reporters.
Dot Richardson, shortstop of the gold-medal women's softball team, was second with 637 points and 12 first-place votes, followed by 100-meter champion Gail Devers, gold-medal soccer team star Mia Hamm and gymnast Shannon Miller, who won gold medals in the team and individual beam events.
8 Championship Auto Racing Teams will drop the ``IndyCar'' trademark from its racing series next season.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway sued this past spring, claiming CART had violated a 1992 license agreement that allowed it to use that name to market its series. Under a settlement announced Tuesday, the license agreement has been canceled and CART will adopt another trade name and logo.
