Two New York men have been charged after a traffic stop in this Giles County town resulted in a drug arrest.
According to O.P. Ramsey, the Narrows police chief, Jimmy O. Malabar was driving a 1995 Mercedes Benz through the town on U.S. 460 at around 7 p.m. Monday when Officer Mike Weiss noticed the car lacked license plates.
Weiss stopped the vehicle and learned that Malabar's driver license had been suspended. He obtained permission from the occupants to search the car.
A police dog trained to detect drugs found crystallized methamphetamine inside, along with drug paraphernalia.
Police estimated the street value of the seized drug - also known as "ice" - at $3,000.
Narrows police charged Malabar, 31, of the Bronx, and a passenger, Ronald M. Pacheco, 27, of Long Island, with possession with intent to distribute the drug.
They are being held at the Giles County jail without bond. A Feb. 11 preliminary hearing has been set in Giles County General District Court.
Ramsey said the Mercedes was impounded and may be permanently seized.
