STEPHEN A. HOOVER recently was named 1996 Realtor of the Year at the annual convention of the Virginia Association of Realtors. Affiliated with MKB Realtors in Roanoke since 1987, Hoover has been in real estate for 24 years. He has held various leadership positions with the Realtors association, including state president in 1992.

SUSAN WOODIE, administrator of assisted living services at Richfield Retirement Community in Salem, was named Adult Care Residence Administrator of the Year by the Virginia Health Care Association at its annual convention in September. She was cited for working with the Virginia Department of Social Services on revision of the regulatory system for adult care residences.

J. SCOTT HODGE, formerly of Roanoke, has been named the Fredericksburg resident engineer for the Virginia Department of Transportation. Hodge worked for Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern Inc. for nine years before becoming assistant resident engineer for VDOT's Salem office in 1992, where he has worked until his promotion in September.

DEBRA LOCKHART has earned the Certified Medical Assistant credential by passing the American Association of Medical Assistants' certification examination. She is employed by Carilion North Roanoke Center.

JACK MARTIN of Fink's Jewelers has achieved the Certified Gemologist Appraiser title from the American Gem Society, an association of retail jewelers in the United States and Canada. The CGA accreditation is the highest level of achievement in the jewelry industry.

Seven ROANOKE COUNTY CIRCUIT COURT deputy clerks have been certified by the University of Virginia/Virginia Court Clerks' Association. They are Brenda Agee, Clem Cole, Amy Joyce, John Krista, Fay Mahone, Robbie Paluck, Donna Schaffer and Nancy Taylor. Certification is based on educational achievement, years of experience, and attendance at educational and training sessions sponsored by the state Compensation Board, the Virginia Supreme Court and other state and local organizations.

The Virginia Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects presented its annual Stewardship of the Environment award to M. RUPERT CUTLER, executive director of Virginia's Explore Park.

SOUTHWEST MOVING & STORAGE INC. in Roanoke has become a member of the American Movers Conference, which is affiliated with the American Trucking Association. AMC is the moving industry's largest trade association and its principal rate-making, tariff publishing and data-gathering organization.

CARL B. ROBERTSON has earned the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation from the Institute of Certified Management Accountants. Robertson is a budget analyst and general accountant for Education Systems Corp., parent company of National Business College.

LIZ DAVIS, a Roanoke registered nurse, has received the Alex Sawyer Award from the Blue Ridge Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the area of client services. Davis has worked as an intern with the Blue Ridge Chapter.

THE BLUE RIDGE CHAPTER OF THE CHARTERED PROPERTY CASUALTY UNDERWRITERS SOCIETY recently welcomed new designees into the chapter, including Harold C. Chittum of Roanoke and Aaron J. Smith of Salem. These designations were conferred during a ceremony at the CPCU Society's annual meeting in New York. Also, the chapter has received the E. Adrian Teaf Memorial Education and Excellence Award and the Chapter Continuing Professional Development Award for encouraging continuing education and professional development among members.

DAVID C. PRICE, manager-tax review at Norfolk Southern Corp., has been designated a certified employee benefit specialist by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Price also is a certified public accountant, a certified management accountant, a certified internal auditor and a certified financial planner licensee.

WILLIAM H. SPENCER III, a Franklin Life Insurance Co. agent in Roanoke, will be featured in the company's national publication, The Franklin Field, for qualifying for the Regency Club. Membership in the club recognizes sales performance.

The DAYS INN CIVIC CENTER was presented with the "Check In With Pride" award at the Days Inn Owners and Managers World Wide Conference in Washington, D.C., in September. Days Inn Civic Center was chosen for the award because of property improvements made over the past three years since Remington Hotel Corp. has managed the property, resulting in increased daily rates and profits.
