LIBERTY RUNS WIN STREAK TO 30 GAMES

Raymond Arrington scored 21 points as Liberty worked overtime to remain unbeaten with a 74-72 victory over Gate City on Thursday night at the McDonald's Highlands Union Bank Classic in Bristol.

Gate City freshman Tony McDonald, who scored 18 points, hit a 3-pointer with seven seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime. But the Blue Devils (1-2) could not pull out a victory in the extra period.

Arrington scored nine of his points in overtime to lead the Minutemen (5-0). Robert Carson contributed 15 points for Liberty, the reigning Group AA champion.

Josh Shoemaker led Gate City with a game-high 28 points.

The Minutemen will put their 30-game winning streak on the line tonight at 8:30 against the winner of Thursday night's Oak Hill-St.James (Md.) matchup.

Radford 69, Rocky Gap 44: John Robertson scored 19 points as the Bobcats (2-2) won a non-district matchup with the Eagles (3-3) in Radford.

Robertson scored 15 of his points on five 3-pointers. Adam Artrip contributed 12 points for Radford. Steven Hairston and Andrew Crowder added 10 points each.

Kenny Shrader led the Eagles with 14 points and Steve Black scored 12.

Patrick Henry 49, Martinsville 46: Ronnie Kasey scored 17 points, including the winning free throws, to spark the Patriots to a non-district victory over the Bulldogs in Martinsville.

With the score tied at 46, Kasey was fouled on a 3-point attempt with a half-second remaining in the game. He nailed all three shots to give PH the 49-46 victory. Boo Battle added 11 points for the Patriots (5-1).

Kelsey Green and Danny Wade scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Martinsville (3-3).

Girls

Cave Spring 71, Amherst County 28: Lindsay Cannon scored 22 points as all 10 Knights found the scoring column in a non-district victory over the visiting Lancers.

Coleman, a junior center, was 8-for-13 from the floor. Cave Spring (3-0) broke open the game with a 16-5 second-quarter run, then polished off Amherst County with a 29-point fourth quarter.

Amy Causey scored 10 points for the Knights. Amber Neil had seven steals.

Roanoke Valley Christian 50, Patrick Henry 32:Gina Gunthrie scored 20 points as the Eagles (6-1) shot the lights out, literally, in a non-district victory at the Patriots' gym.

The game was cut short with about three minutes remaining when the power went out in the gym. The score stood upon a mutual agreement between the two coaches.

Tanisha Durham led PH (3-4) with 12 points.
