TEEN SAYS YOUTH WITH GUN TRIED TO TAKE JACKET

A teen-ager brandishing a handgun tried to take a jacket from a 16-year-old boy walking in Roanoke on Thursday afternoon.

Police said the 16-year-old boy was walking west on Day Avenue Southwest about 4:55 p.m. A blue, compact car pulled alongside with four or five males inside. One got out, holding a handgun, threatened to kill the boy and demanded the jacket he wore. The assailant hit the boy in the face with his fist and the gun. The assailant then fired a shot into the air, jumped back into the car and fled, police said. He did not take the jacket.

The boy was treated for facial injuries.
