ALTIERI, Rosa Damiani, 90, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, December 19, 1996. She was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Altieri. Mrs. Altieri retired from Kenrose Manufacturing. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Anthony C. and Carol G. Altieri, Fincastle; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy A. and James L. Harris, Roanoke; five grandchildren, Danny Harris and wife Tammy, Cindi Lanford and husband Ken, David Harris and wife Elizabeth, Jayson Altieri and wife Shelle, Chyrs Altieri, and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 23, 1996, at Oakey's North Chapel, with Pastoral Associate Phil Gallagher officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's North Chapel.

BOGAR, Blanch Hall, 86, of Lexington, died Friday, December 20, 1996, at her home. Mrs. Bogar was born June 27, 1910, in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Robert E. Hall and Nancy Martin Hall. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. Surviving are one son, Vern Dean Bogar of Lexington; one daughter, Mrs. Hunter (Hazel) McCoy of Lexin gton; one sister, Mrs. D. P. (Edith) Weade of Lexington; six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 1996, at the graveside in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul Carter officiating. CLARK, Ernest C., 88, of Glade Spring, died Thursday, December 19, 1996, at his home. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Susong Clark, and a brother, Garland Clark. He was owner and operator of Appalachian Gardens and was known as ``The Holly Man."" He was a member of Glade Spring Presbyterian Church. He is survived by one sister, Mildred C. Faris of Kingsport, Tenn.; one nephew and wife, James B. and Patricia B. Faris of Kingsport, and two great-nieces, Paige A. Faris of Kingsport and Holly M. Faris of Knoxville, Tenn. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Williams Funeral Home Chapel, Chilhowie, with the Rev. Timothy W. Bird officiating. Burial will be in Old Glade Cemetery. FARMER, June Staley, 74, of Radford, passed away Thursday, December 19, 1996, in Radford Community Hospital. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Radford. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Burnette Farmer. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Jacqueline Howell of Greensboro, N.C.; two sons, Thomas Preston Farmer of Radford and Guy Edward Farmer of Richmond; one brother, Bobby Staley of Salem; two sisters, Christine Gates of St. Clair Shores, Mich., and Violet (``Biddy"") Maupin of Radford, and four grandchildren, Preston Farmer, Patrick Farmer, Jonathan Howell and Nicholas Howell. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 22, 1996, at 2 p.m., at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford, with the Rev. Wendell Manuel officiating. GRAHAM, Ruth Thomas, (``Jimmie""), 78, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, December 18, 1996, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. HATCHER, Carrie Lillian, 81, of Glasgow, died Friday, December 20, 1996, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Hatcher was born June 10, 1915, in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Grier Presley Watkins and Sarah Jane Smith Watkins. She was a member of the South Lexington Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, and was preceded in death by her husband, Houston J. Hatcher Sr., and a son, Daniel Lee Hatcher. Surviving are nine children, Houston J. Hatcher Jr. of Glasgow, June Rafferty of Glasgow, Carrie Walker of Lexington, Okla., Ruth Lewis of Port Royal, S.C., Henry M. Hatcher of Lexington, Susie H. Denson of Roanoke, Margaret H. Watt of Roanoke, Gilmore W. Hatcher of Glasgow and Stephanie Miller of Roanoke; one daughter-in-law, Wanda R. Hatcher of Lexington; 43 grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren and and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 1996, at the Harrison Funeral Chapel, with Morgan Chewing officiating. Burial will follow in Broad Creek Cemetery. HATCHER, Laura Alderman, 93, of Floyd, passed away Friday, December 20, 1996, at Skyline Manor Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Clarence Hatcher Sr., on September 19, 1996. She graduated from high school in Floyd County, and was a former teacher who received her educational training from the Radford Normal. Mrs. Hatcher was active in the Burks Fork and Harris Chapel United Methodist Churches. She was a musician who played the organ and piano at church functions. She was also skilled in playing the guitar and the keyboard. During her early life she was very active as a midwife, having delivered 60 babies. She is survived by three sons, David Clarence Hatcher Jr. of Patrick Springs, Berchard L. Hatcher of Manassas and Donnie Hatcher of Floyd; two daughters, Faye Burgess and Maidelle Hatcher of Floyd; one brother, Rush Alderman of Willis; one sister, Maude Helms of Hollywood, Md.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Norman Biggs and the Rev. Ralph Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Topeco Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Maberry Funeral Home. Flowers will be appreciated, or memorials may be made to Floyd County Rescue Squad.

HOLMES, Peggy Johnson, 62, of Virginia Beach and formerly of Roanoke, died Thursday, December 19, 1996. She was retired from Shenandoah Life Insurance Company in Roanoke, and was preceded in death by her parents, William Guy Johnson and Laurine Chilton Johnson. Survivors include her husband, David Holmes of Virginia Beach; sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis J. and Earl Young of Salem; a number of nieces and nephews, including William (``Butch"") and Kathy Young of Vinton; a number of great-nephews and great-nieces, and special friends, Terry and Michelle. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Sam E. McPhail officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. LINKENHOKER, Walter Lewis, (``Bill""), 79, of Buchanan, died Friday, December 20, 1996. Born to the late Robert Taylor Sr. and Lucy Rebecca Wilcher Linkenhoker, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charlie Linkenhoker, Taylor Linkenhoker and James Linkenhoker, and a sister, Mary Mae Linkenhoker. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II for four years, being a military policeman and coastal artillery within the United States. Bill was a member and former Deacon of Buchanan Baptist Church, a former member of Buchanan Lions Club and a member of Buchanan American Legion Post #93. He had retired from James River Limestone with over 37 years of service and nine years as a consultant. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Eunice C. Linkenhoker; sons and daughters-in-law, Rodger C. Linkenhoker and Mary Jane Sexton of Buchanan, and David and Lisa Linkenhoker of Roanoke; daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel and Wayne Tolley of Buchanan, an d Dawn and Michael Hogan of Roanoke; grandchildren, Kevin Tolley, Stacey Tolley, Ashley Hogan, Michelle Hogan, Laura Hogan, Zachary Linkenhoker and Ryan Linkenhoker; brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Martha Linkenhoker of Roanoke, and Robert Taylor Jr. and Bonnie Linkenhoker of Buchanan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mrs. Viola Austin, Lillian and Don Peery, and Elizabeth and William Peery, all of Buchanan, and numerous nieces and nephews. LORENZEN, Alice King, 78, of Marion, died Thursday, December 19, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Glenn King and Dutch Lorenzen. She was the owner and operator of the Lorenzen Motel in Marion. She is survived by one sister, Flossie Blevins of Chilhowie; several nieces and nephews, and one special little girl, Shai Cullop. McNEIL, Delores Young, 63, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and formerly of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, December 19, 1996, in a Brooklyn, N.Y. hospital. She had lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. for many years. She was a graduate of Lucy Addison High School and New York City College. Delores worked for the City of New York for many years before retiring due to health. She was the daughter of the late W. Mark Young and Mary W. Young. Her sisters, Mary Y. Brown and Hannah Y. White also preceded her in death. Delores is survived by one brother, W. Mark (Mary) Young, Roanoke; two nieces, Tonya Young, Roanoke, Yvonne Danforth, Brooklyn, N.Y.; two nephews, Al (Pat) Herbert, Sickleville, N.J., Melvin Brown, Brooklyn, N.Y.; two aunts; other relatives and friends. MONTGOMERY, Mary Patterson, 80, of Lexington, died Wednesday, December 18, 1996. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 1996, in the Collierstown Presbyterian Cemetery. Arrangements by Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington.

NEEL, Marjorie, 75, of Roanoke, ended her courageous battle with cancer at her home on Friday, December 20, 1996. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Mead and Helen Brick Neel of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and a brother Tom B. Neel of Bedford. Before moving to her beloved Roanoke Valley in 1989, Miss Neel was a retired nurse with lengthy employment at M. D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute in Houston, Texas. Marjorie lea ves friends in many places, both two- and four-legged. Among them, very special friends, Laura Wilson and Clancy MacGillacuddy. Miss Neel requested cremation and no service. Oakey's Roanoke Chapel is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society

SMITH, Amcie Garrett, 84, of Salem, died Thursday, December 19, 1996. He had retired from the Eaton Corporation with 30 years of service. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Minnie L. Smith; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Betty Smith, Lynn and Brenda Smith, and Daryel Smith; grandchildren, Michael, Kelly, Jason, Randy, Kevin, Sherri, Colin, Adam and Anne Laurie, and great-grandchildren, Shayna, Chelsey, Samantha, Victoria and Aaron. SPICER, Sigrid Rita, 60, of Front Royal, died Thursday, December 19, 1996, in the Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. She was born in Germany on November 14, 1936, and was the daughter of the late Karl Frederick and Hedurg Gertrud Waldin. She is survived by her husband, Buddie Raymond Spicer of Front Royal; a son, Buddie R. Spicer Jr. of Front Royal; two daughters, Susan Dotson of Smithfield, N.C., and Peggy Simpson of Atlanta, Ga.; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 1996, in the chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows, with Fr. Louis Benoit officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will gather with their friends at Riffe's in Narrows from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday
