BYRD KNOCKS OFF ROCKBRIDGE CO.

Mayo Wilson scored 20 points to lead William Byrd to a 65-57 Blue Ridge District victory over Rockbridge County on Friday night in Lexington.

Josh Wheeler scored 17 points for the Terriers (4-1 overall, 2-0 district) and Kevin Stump added 10.

Luke Serber led the Wildcats (1-3, 1-1) with 17 points.

Auburn 71, Roanoke Catholic 68, OT: Josh Vaughn scored 17 of his 19 points in the first half of the Eagles' non-district victory at the Celtics' gym.

Adam Loveday added 16 points for Auburn (2-4) and Phil Morris had 13.

Chad Wall scored a game-high 33 points to lead the Celtics (1-5) and Terron Reed added 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Alleghany 59, Northside 54: Casey Burks scored a game-high 23 points as the Mountaineers overcame a cold second quarter and kept visiting Northside winless in a Blue Ridge District game.

The Mountaineers (2-3, 1-1) trailed 34-25 at halftime, then outscored the Vikings (0-4, 0-2) by 14 in the second half. Nat Franklin led Northside with 17 points.

Blacksburg 56, Lord Botetourt 52: Philip Klaus scored 19 points as the Indians downed the Cavaliers in a Blue Ridge District game in Blacksburg.

The Cavaliers (5-2, 0-2) led 33-29 at the half, but Klaus scored 11 in the third quarter and Krishna Pacifici added 10 of his 14 points in the fourth to help the Indians (5-3, 2-0) win.

Sean Osborne and Michael Yates scored 15 points each for the Cavaliers.

George Washington-Danville 65, William Fleming 54: Quentin Jones scored 18 points as the Eagles downed the Colonels in a non-district game at Fleming's gym.

Tyrone Robertson added 12 points for the Eagles (5-0) and Charles Stephens scored 11.

Charles Burnette led the Colonels (4-3) with 15 points.

Glenvar 73, James River 62: Josh Williamson scored a game-high 37 points to lead the Highlanders to a non-district victory over the Knights at Glenvar's gym.

Chris Evans scored eight of his 17 points, Bryan Fasnacht had all seven of his points, and Williamson added seven in the fourth quarter as the Highlanders outscored the Knights 26-12 for the victory. Glenvar (2-5) outrebounded James River 32-19 and forced 24 Knights turnovers.

Quincy Springs led James River (2-5) with 21 points.

Roanoke Valley Christian 65, Lynchburg Christian 58: The Eagles built a 17-point halftime lead en route to a Virginia Independent Conference boys' victory over Lynchburg Christian.

Roanoke Valley Christian (5-2, 4-1) was led by Brad Hutchins' 22 points. Chris Huffman added 18. Nathaniel Garrett led Lynchburg Christian (3-5, 2-2) with 15 points.

Pulaski County 65, Amherst County 37: Ronald Branch scored 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the floor as the unbeaten Cougars routed the Lancers in a non-district game in Dublin.

Greg Hodge and Dorian Hendricks had five steals each for Pulaski County (5-0). Joey McDowell paced Amherst County with 10 points.

Oak Hill 87, Liberty 65: Attila Cosby scored 36 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help the Warriors end the Minutemen's 30-game winning streak, winning a semifinal of the McDonald's Highlands Union Bank Holiday Classic in Bristol.

Oak Hill, ranked No.25 in the nation by USA Today, led 43-41 with about five minutes left in the third quarter before pulling away. The Warriors outrebounded Liberty 47-21.

Jermaine Medley contributed 23 points and Kevin Lyde had 14 points and 14 rebounds for Oak Hill.

Raymond Arrington led the Minutemen (5-1) with 17 points. They will play Haysi today in the third-place game.

Radford 73, Fort Chiswell 71: John Robertson hit a 10-foot jump shot with five seconds left to give the Bobcats a victory over the Pioneers in a non-district game in Radford.

Robertson, who finished with a game-high 21 points, broke a 71-71 tie with his jumper off the glass. He was fouled on the play, but missed the free throw. Fort Chiswell (1-3), however, couldn't get off a shot that could have forced overtime.

Andrew Crowder added 17 points for Radford (3-2). Derrick Jackson's 18 points led the Pioneers.

Girls

Roanoke Valley Christian 73, Lynchburg Christian Academy 29: Sophomore guard Gina Guthrie registered a triple-double in leading the Eagles to a Blue Ridge Conference victory over the Bulldogs.

Guthrie scored 22 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had 14 steals. Rebecca Bryant, the Eagles' sophomore center, recorded a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Kaurne McKee tossed in 15 points and Tiffany Dobbs added 13 for RVC (7-1, 3-1).

Whitney Bennington was the only Bulldogs scorer in double figures, with 11 points.

GW-Danville 54, William Fleming 40: Shaunarey Walker (14) and Renita Walker (11) combined for 25 points, but it wasn't enough as the Eagles (6-1) defeated the Colonels (4-3) in a non-district game in Danville.
