Expansion of the Dynax Corp. plant in Botetourt County may not be as certain as a company official said Thursday.
Toyoski Fukuda, president of the company's U.S. unit, said Friday the official misspoke when he said Dynax will build a second factory in Botetourt County in addition to one under construction.
Fukuda said the company is only "studying" such a project. A decision whether to go forward will be made within a year.
Dynax is building a factory to manufacture wet friction clutch plates, an auto transmission component. Randy Rakes, the company's general affairs manager for the Botetourt project, had said Thursday that Dynax intends to build a paper factory beside it; paper is a component of the plates.
