ALLMAN, Wesley O., 67, of Glade Hill, passed away Saturday, December 21, 1996, at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by a son, Roscoe Allman; a daughter, Rosemany Allman, and his father, Dave Allman. Surviving are his wife, Margaret T. Allman of the home; his children, Gerald and wife Patti S. Allman of Roanoke, Mark Allman and Daryl Allman of Glade Hill, Joan A. Dodson of Oak Level, Terri Allman of Glade Hill and Anita Allman of Union Hall; his mother, Vanna T. Allman; a special granddaughter, Kim A. Hunt of Penhook; four special grandchildren, Brian, Ryan, Curtis and Philip, and two special great-grandchildren, Timmy and Shane Hunt. Also surviving are one sister, Shirley A. Pagans of Collinsville; one brother and sister-in-law, David and Mary Allman of Rocky Mount; one half sister, Wilmoth Berger of Union Hall, and many nieces and nephews. May you rest in peace, dear husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. Thank you for being there when we needed you. We love you. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. Monday, with Pastor John Ott and the Rev. Kirby Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in the Allman Family Cemetery at the home. BOGAR, Blanch Hall, 86, of Lexington, died Friday, December 20, 1996, at her home. Mrs. Bogar was born June 27, 1910, in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Robert E. Hall and Nancy Martin Hall. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. Surviving are one son, Vern Dean Bogar of Lexington; one daughter, Mrs. Hunter (Hazel) McCoy of Lexington; one brother, Ralph E. Hall of Vesuvius, Va; one sister, Mrs. D. P. (Edith) Weade of Lexington; six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 1996, at the graveside in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul Carter officiating. BRAMMER, Charles Derwood, 57, of Union Hall, died Thu rsday, December 19, 1996. Mr. Brammer was a local businessman and co-owner of Franklin Ready Mix. He was preceded in death by his father, William S. Brammer; a brother, Patrick Brammer; and a sister, Betty Jane Barber. Surviving are his loving wife and business partner, Virginia B. Brammer of the home; two daughters and son-in-law, Karen and Jerome Reynolds of Rocky Mount, Sharon (Shay) Brammer of Rocky Mount; two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Joanna Reynolds of Rocky Mount; his mother, Nellie V. Brammer of Roanoke; three brothers, Carlton Brammer of Roanoke, Theodore Brammer of South Carolina and David Brammer of Roanoke; one sister, Sandra Thacker of Alabama and their families; a special friend, Lisa Black. CARTER, Woodrow Wilson, 76, of Buena Vista, died Saturday, December 21, 1996, in Shenandoah Valley Health Care Center. Mr. Carter was born April 28, 1920, in Amherst County, a son of the late Charles E. and Henrietta Johnson Carter. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of Buena Vista Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was retired from Brown and Root Construction Company. Surviving are his wife, Reva Rhodes Carter of Buena Vista; two daughters and one son-in-law, Shirley Humphrey, and Cornelia (``Susie"") and William Hawkes, all of Buena Vista; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Wilson and Evelyn Carter of Bristol, Tenn., and David (``Pee-Wee"") Carter of Buena Vista; four grandchildren, Wayne Humphrey Jr. and Jeremy Humphrey of Buena Vista, Micky Carter of Dennison, Texas, and Kimberly Carter of Newport News; one brother, Charles R. Carter of Buena Vista; one sister, Mary C. Knight of Buena Vista, and a number of nieces and nephews. DENNIS, Dr. Bill L., Jr., B.A.D.C., 50, of Wooster, Ohio, died unexpectedly Friday, December 20, 1996, at Barberton Citizens Hospital. Born in Durham, N.C., he was a son of Bill L. Sr. and Dorothy Faye Dennis of Roanoke, Va. Dr. Dennis resided in Wooster for 3 1/2 years, previously residing in Barberton, Ohio. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, and owner of Dennis Chiropractic Clinic Inc. in Barberton for the past five years. In addition to his parents, Dr. Dennis is survived by his wife, Sherrie Bicksler Dennis; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert J. and Becky Dennis of Roanoke, and four nieces and nephews. FETTERS, Edith Forsythe, 94, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, December 21, 1996, in Camelot Hall, Salem. She was born on December 24, 1901, in Banning, Pa., and lived at Shenandoah Homes for 12 years. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Alma Fetters of Roanoke; one granddaughter and husband, Nancy and Timothy Holcomb, and three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Scott and Amanda Holcomb, all of Fort Defiance. FRYE, Joe Glenn, Sr., 64, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, December 19, 1996. Mr. Frye played football at Galax High School and graduated from Virginia Tec h. He was a retired school teacher with Roanoke City and later worked for Campbell Realty. Mr. Frye later started his own real estate company, Joe Frye Real Estate. Of Mr. Frye's many accomplishments, his greatest accomplishment was his family. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Frye; sons and a daughter-in-law, James Calvin II and Tayne Marie Frye, and Joe Glenn Frye Jr.; a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Vee and John Reed; grandchildren, Brittany Suzzanne Frye, Jessica Reed, Zachary Reed and John Paul Reed Jr.; a grandchild-to-be, Madison Frye; a sister, Libby Frye, and several nieces and nephews. HENSON, Edna Moore Chaplin, 82, of Buena Vista, died Saturday, December 21, 1996. Mrs. Henson was born July 13, 1914, in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Ross H. Moore and Eva C. Moore. She was a member of Oronoco Church of the Brethren. Mrs. Henson was preceded in death by her husbands, Cline H. Chaplin and Massie W. Henson, and three brothers, Lawrence H. Moore, Houston R. Moore and William R. Moore. Surviving are two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and James Arthur of Glasgow and Lois and Edward Chittum of Buena Vista; a special care give of many years, Sue Higgins, and a number of nieces and nephews. KNIGHT, Benjamin Perry Jr., 87, of Buena Vista, died Friday, December 20, 1996 at his residence. Born January 28, 1909 in Buena Bist, son of the late Benjamin Perry Knight Sr. and Julia Ann Goodwin Knight. He retired after 44 years from the C & O Railroad as an Assistant Divisional Superintendent. He along with his sisters owned and operated B.P. Knight's Country Store in Buena Vista. He was a member of the St. John's United Methodist Church and a former member of the Ben-Wesley Ruritan Club. Surviving are his wife, Jean Barclay Garvin Knight; two sons, Robert Lee Warren of Front Royal and Moffett Dean Warren of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Glass of Buena Vista and Julia Eifler of Huntsville, Ala. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, December 23, 1996 at the St. John's United Methodist Church with Dr. Robert Hawkins and the Rev. Edward Johnson officiating. LaPRADE, Eva Mae, 90, of Boones Mill, died Saturday, December 21, 1996, at her home. She was the widow of Jacob William LaPrade, and was preceded in death by a son, Jessie David LaPrade. Surviving are three daughters, Mary Ann St. Clair of Boones Mill, and Melva Jean Surface and Joyce May Wilburn, both of Rocky Mount; two sons, Jacob William LaPrade and Billy B. LaPrade, both of Boones Mill; 10 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; three sisters, Helen Wade of Ferrum, Rachael Wingo of Roanoke and Frances Beckner of Vinton, and a special friend, Carrie Worthington. LEEDY, John Elmer, Sr., 78, of Wytheville, died Saturday morning, December 21, 1996, at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Gay Thompson Leedy; a son, John E. Leedy Jr., and two brothers, Cecil Leedy and David Leedy. He is survived by his wife, Frankie Martin Leedy of Wyt heville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Billy Fields of Wytheville and Donna and Dee Stroupe of Crockett; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Charlene Leedy, and Marty and Leslie Leedy of Wytheville; one sister, Nancy Udell of Wytheville; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and two stepgrandchildren. MANUEL, James Daniel, (``June""), 74, of Wytheville, died Saturday morning, December 21, 1996 in the Wythe Co. Community Hospital. He was preceded in death by his d aughter, Dawn Manuel Smith. He was retired from the Wytheville Police Dept., and worked part-time for the Gillman Funeral Chapel. He is survived by his wife, Iris Bralley Manuel of Wytheville; his son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Nancy Manuel of Wytheville; son-in-law, Jerry Smith of Wytheville; four brothers, Bill Manuel, Jesse Manuel both of Wytheville, Buddy Manuel of Beaufort, S.C. and Lawrence Manuel of Wytheville; three grandchildren. SNEAD, Alma Betty Saville, 62, of Charlottesville, died Friday, December 20, 1996 at her home. Born December 23, 1933 in Springwood, Va., she was the daughter of the late Houston Emory Saville and Gladys Virginia Farrell Saville. Her husband was the late Delbert Lee Snead Sr. Mrs. Snead attended James Madison University and was a member of Belmont Baptist Church. She worked at Miller & Rhodes, University of Virginia Hospital and Morrison's Cafeteria. She is survived by two daughters, Rennie Snead DePremo and her husband, Ted Mahaffey of Charlottesville, Nina C. Snead Pierce and her husband, Charles H. Pierce Jr. of Scottsville; two sons, Delbert L. Snead Jr. and his wife, Pamela of Worden, Ill., and John Paul Snead of Charlottesville; a sister, Jean Saville Watts and her husband, John W. WATKINS, Charlie Marion, Jr., 71, of Bassett, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, December 21, 1996. Mr. Watkins was born on January 2, 1925, to the late Charlie Marion Watkins Sr. and the late Zera Compton Watkins of Henry County. Mr. Watkins was a good and decent man who loved all of God's creation. All who knew him loved him back. He especially loved little children, small animals and NASCAR racing. He believed in living good and treating everyone with a kind and loving hand. ``Same here, Dad."" Mr. Watkins was a U.S. Navy veteran, and had retired from Fieldcrest Mills. Mr. Watkins is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gertrude Watkins of the home; two daughters, Linda Harris of Fieldale and Collette Clark of Bassett, and two sons, John Michael Watkins of Roanoke and Ricky Allen Watkins of Collinsville. He also is survived by five sisters, Cleo Colston of Bassett, Odessa Boothe of Bassett, Myrtle Prillaman of Henry, Josephine Stone of Bassett and Mable Ramsey of Bassett; two brothers, Wayne Watkins of Bassett and Clyde Watkins of Martinsville; 10 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. WATSON, Jessie Wilson, 79, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 19, 1996. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Zelma M. Watson. Jessie served in the United States Army during the second world war. He served as a munitions worker and airplane armorer in the Central Burma, India Burma, China, Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia and Sicily Campaigns. He earned a Presidential Citation, a Good Conduct Medal, an Eastern Mediterranean Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars and a Asiastic Pacific Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars. He retired from McClung Lumber Company and was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Surviving are his daughter, Geraldine W. Watts and husband George of Salem; granddaughters, Linda W. Thompson and husband Johnny, and Julie W. Saunders and husband Brian, all of Salem; grandson, Paul D. Watts of Fredericksburg; five great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews, including Thelma Wood, her husband Lomax, and their son Darrell, and sisters, Garnet (``Tootsie"") Woolwine and husband Kipps, and Mae Woolwine and husband Gilbert. WEBB, Charles Isaac, 82, of Fancy Gap, died Saturday, December 21, 1996 at his home. Mr. Webb was the founder and retired owner of the Blue Ridge Market of Va. Inc., Hillsville. Survivors include his wife, Maude Vass Webb of the home; daughter, Christine Webb Hendrick, Rural Hall, N.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Chester and Amy Webb, Fancy Gap; sister, Myrtle Utt, Fancy Gap; brothers, Wiley Webb, Danville, Norman Webb, Mt. Airy, N.C.; four grandchildren and spouses, Lisa Hendrick Minter, Charles and Lynette Hendrick, Randy and Sabrina Webb, Bradley Webb; three great-grandchildren, Amanda Webb, Jordan Hendrick, Brooke Hendrick. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 23, 1996 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Jones and the Rev. Wendell Horton officiating. Interment will be in Webb-Skyview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville.
