CONTRACTOR APPOINTS NEW PRESIDENT

PETER J. BURROWS has been named president of Morrison Mechanical & Building Services Inc. in Roanoke. He comes to the contractor from Medeco Security Locks in Salem, where he was director of international sales for four years.

Burrows succeeds JIM MORRISON, owner and founder of the company, who will continue as director of sales.

Burrows, whose background is in the security and building management industry, formerly was international sales director of Cardkey Systems in California and Casi-Rusco in Boca Raton, Fla.

BANKING

F. EDWARD HARRIS, Western Region president of Crestar Bank, has been appointed chairman of the 1997 U.S. Savings Bonds Campaign for the Roanoke Valley. He will be a member of a national committee of volunteer executives and will work with the business community, media and civic leaders to encourage people to buy savings bonds.

FIBER OPTICS

MICHAEL E. WEBER has been named a principal in Lightly Expressed Ltd. in Salem. Weber joined the company in May as the director of design. Lightly Expressed designs, develops and manufactures fiber optic lighting systems for the international architectural market.

GOVERNMENT

DEBORAH STURM KENDALL has been selected as director of planning for Orange County. She previously worked as a community development planner for Bedford County from 1994 to 1996. Before that, Kendall was a planner for the Fifth Planning District Commission from 1988 to 1994.

INSURANCE

DONALD M. KINZER has been promoted to vice president and chief investment officer of Roanoke-based Shenandoah Life Insurance Corp. effective Jan. 1. Kinzer joined Shenandoah Life in 1992 and is on the adjunct faculty of Hollins College and Roanoke College.

LYNN S. AYCOCK has been promoted to assistant vice president in the Roanoke division of Thomas Rutherfoord Inc. Aycock, who has worked in insurance for 18 years, joined Rutherfoord's Richmond office in 1983.

ROBERT J. TURNER has been promoted to sales manager in the Roanoke district office of American General Life and Accident Insurance Co. Turner joined American Life earlier this year as an agent.

ORGANIZATIONS

Fourteen Bedford residents recently completed the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce' initial leadership training program. REAL ESTATE

BARBARA M. BLEVINS has joined Boone & Co. Realtors. She is a member of the Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors, the Virginia Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.

RETAIL

FRED HILL has been named vice president store operations at Grand Piano and Furniture Co. Hill joined the Roanoke-based furniture store chain in 1974 and most recently was area manager in Lynchburg. RIC FOUTZ of Roanoke succeeds Hill as Lynchburg area manager. He joined Grand Piano in 1981 and most recently managed the company's Covington store.

TECHNOLOGY

JULIET SILVER has joined Framatome Technologies Information Services as account manager in the Roanoke area. She previously was general manager of Goss Associates, a Roaonoke software-development firm. Before that, she was education services manager at Framatome, helping to develop the Roanoke market. ELLEN MUELLER has joined the company as account manager in Lynchburg. She has eight years of experience in information technology and strategic planning.
