FLOYD COUNTY GETS BY WYTHE

Jason Dalton scored 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Floyd County past George Wythe 82-70 on Saturday and into the championship game of the Marion Christmas Invitational in Marion.

Derek Saunders scored 16 points and had 10 boards and Travis Cantrell chipped in 11 points and 11 assists for the Buffaloes.

Floyd County will play the winner of the Marion-Chilhowie matchup at 7:30 p.m. Monday for the title.

Brian Barns led the Maroons with 13 points.

Carroll County 49, Galax 46: Jeremy Ogle scored 12 points to lead the Cavaliers past the Maroon Tide at the Marion Christmas Invitational in Marion.

Michael Shumate led Galax with 18 points.

Grayson County 75, Patrick Henry-Glade Spring 53: Derek Phipps scored 23 points for the Blue Devils in a victory over the Rebels at the Marion Christmas Invitational in Marion.

Grayson County led 47-45 after three quarters, but outscored PH 28-8 in the fourth quarter. Wes Self added 18 points for the Blue Devils.

Billy Litton and Travis Farmer scored 14 points each for the Rebels.

Liberty 76, Haysi 64: Raymond Arrington scored 19 points to lead the Minutemen past the Tigers in the third-place game of the McDonald's Highlands Union Bank Holiday Classic in Bristol.

Rodney Morris scored 12 of his 14 points in the second and third quarters as Liberty (6-1) outscored Haysi 43-25 to take command.

Kory Bostic led the Tigers (5-2) with 19 and Brett Compton added 18 points.

Gateway Christian 51, Calvary Christian (N.C>) 43: Allen Surface scored 18 points to lead the Crusaders (3-4) past the Cougars (6-1) at the Calvary Invitational in King, N.C.

Gateway outscored Calvary 20-6 in the second quarter to take control. Brad Duncan scored 13 points for the Crusaders.

Clayton Maynard had 20 points to lead the Cougars.

Pocahontas (W.Va.) 68, Covington 56: Chad Taylor scored 32 points to lead Pocahontas past the Cougars in the consolation game of the Dick Gunnoe Memorial Tournament at Greenbrier East High School.

Ryan Mickle contributed 13 points for Pocahontas and Chris Cole added 11.

Erwin Twitty scored 15 points for the Cougars (1-3).

Friday's games

George Wythe 72, Carroll County 49: Brian Barnes scored 23 points as the Maroons beat the Cavaliers in the Marion Christmas Invitational Tournament. Justin Bourne added 17 points for Wythe.

Floyd County 70, Grayson County 61: Derek Saunders scored 19 points to lead the Buffaloes past the Blue Devils in the Marion Christmas Invitational. Jason Dalton added 16 points and Travis Cantrell had 12 for the Buffaloes.

Derek Phipps led the Blue Devils with 17 points.

Chilhowie 75, Galax 73, OT: Earl Allen scored 32 points as the Warriors won an overtime game against the Maroon Tide in the Marion Christmas Invitational. Joel Donnelly added 18 points for Chilhowie.

Michael Shumate led Galax with 22 points.

Jefferson Forest 57, Staunton River 46: The Cavaliers kept just enough distance between themselves and the Golden Eagles to lead throughout in a Seminole District game in Forest.

Jefferson Forest (4-2, 4-2) got 14 points from Anthony Moreno, the leader among three double-figure scorers. Staunton River (3-2, 3-2) was paced by Chris Martin's 16 points.

Highland 67, Union Grant (W.Va.) 53: In Elkins, W.Va., Jake Hull's 21 points paced the Rams past the Tigers and into Saturday night's title game of the Tygart Valley Invitational.

Highland (4-0) met host Tygart Valley for the championship.
