Gillespie at Radford

New York artist Dorothy Gillespie, a Roanoke native, has been named Distinguished Professor of Art at Radford University. She will conduct seminars and offer advice on the passion and business of art. She'll also regularly work with students, producing art and organizing events and projects. Radford's Director of Galleries Anna Fariello described Gillespie's affiliation with the university as "an opportunity for our students to be exposed to a real, working artist beyond the structure of the classroom. The fact that Gillespie is willing to give so much of her time and expertise demonstrates that she is truly a generous person."

Gillespie's work is featured in the Center in the Square atrium, and she also created a colorful 50-square-foot mural featured on the Old Grand Piano building in Roanoke.

Gillespie is also working on several exhibit, including "Dorothy Gillespie: Color in Dimension," scheduled for fall of 1997 at Radford, and "Sculptured Paintings and Painted Sculpture," a traveling exhibit to be shown next fall at the Art Museum of Western Virginia.
