POLICE: SISTER BEAT MAN IN HEAD WITH BAT IN UNRELATED INCIDENT, TEEN IS HIT WITH BOTTLE AT STORE

A Roanoke woman has been charged with beating her brother in the head with a baseball bat.

Police said the incident happened about 4:52 p.m. Sunday at a home in the 1500 block of Syracuse Avenue Northwest. Walter Wade, 61, suffered two deep cuts to his head and was treated at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Wade's younger sister, 41-year-old Sharon Yvonne Wade, told police she confronted him as he argued with her child. Sharon Wade told police she struck her brother once with the bat after he threw a television remote control device at her, authorities said, and again after he charged at her.

Both Wades live at the home where the incident happened, police said.

Sharon Wade was charged with malicious wounding.

In an unrelated incident, police said a 17-year-old girl was struck in the head with a bottle at a convenience store on Shenandoah Avenue Northwest Sunday afternoon.

Police said a woman saw the girl with a man, became enraged and broke the bottle over her head. The girl was bleeding from her head when police arrived minutes later, but was not seriously injured.

Authorities said they have identified the assailant and will assist the 17-year-old in bringing charges.
