GUNSHOT KILLS SLEEPING GIRL, 6

A sleeping 6-year-old girl was shot in the head and killed when an argument outside her bedroom window turned violent.

Candice M. Turner was killed instantly after being hit by a round from an AK-47 semiautomatic assault rifle early Tuesday morning, said Lt. Alfred Yeatman of the Westmoreland County Sheriff's Office.

Police arrested Ricky Wayne Campbell, 30, a short time after the 2:30 a.m. shooting. He is being held at Northern Neck Regional Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond after being charged with murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Oak Grove is about 35 miles east of Fredericksburg.
