MARINE PFC. MARTIN ASIRIFI, son of Yaw and Eva Asirifi of Salem, recently completed basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island, S.C. Asirifi is a 1996 graduate of Salem High School.
ARMY PVT. MARILYN JULIAN, daughter of Michael and Maria Julian of Roanoke, recently completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Waynesville, Mo.
NAVY PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS BARRY D. OGLE, son of William and Emily L. Ogle of Salem, recently returned from a six-month deployment to the western Pacific and Indian oceans aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Arkansas.
His ship supported naval and Air Force units as they launched cruise missiles during Operation Desert Strike and remained in the Persian Gulf to carry out sanctions against Iraq. Ogle, a 1980 graduate of Northside High School, joined the Navy in July 1990 and is stationed in Bremerton, Wash.
MARINE PFC. DAVID ATKINSON, son of Wendell and Donna Atkinson of Roanoke, recently graduated from the Unit Diary Clerk's Course at the Personnel Administration School at Camp Lejeune, N.C. Atkinson, a 1995 graduate of William Fleming High School, learned to prepare personnel information for input into a computer system.
AIR FORCE AIRMAN COREY A. RING, son of Diana and Tim Smith of Roanoke, recently graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
Ring is a 1996 graduate of Cave Spring High School.
MARINE PVT. JAMES A. CHARLES, son of Guy and Lynetta Stilwell of Roanoke, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.
COAST GUARD FIREMAN APPRENTICE CLAYTON P. WARD, son of Charles and Evelyn Ward of Salem, recently graduated from recruit training and was promoted to his present rank.
Ward is a 1996 graduate of Salem High School.
MARINE PVT. TROY R. SISSON, son of Gary Willard and Nanci Lee of Roanoke, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.
Sisson is a 1996 graduate of Cave Spring High School.
NAVY CHIEF PETTY OFFICER MORGAN M. FOSTER, son of Melissa and Ray Foster of Blue Ridge, recently was promoted to his present rank while serving aboard the attack submarine USS Phoenix.
Foster is a 1983 graduate of Staunton River High School.
